Today we are celebrating the success of our colleague Melanie, who is part of the Safe Drive Stay Alive team who won Organisation of the Year at the CVS Falkirk volunteering awards this week 🏆🥳

Safe Drive Stay Alive was set up to educate young people about the importance of safe driving and being responsible passengers and pedestrians. It uses a blend of film and theatre to demonstrate the impact and consequences of a collision, including real testimonials from people whose lives have been impacted by an accident. It's very hard hitting, and intentionally so.

Melanie has been involved for 12 of its 20 years, working behind the scenes to plan and deliver the show to around 4,000 pupils across the Forth Valley every year. She and her fellow volunteers also go into primary schools, children’s clubs and workplaces to deliver road safety presentations.

We are so pleased for everyone at SDSA for their well-deserved award, and especially proud of Melanie for her contribution to this vital campaign to help keep young people safer on the road.

It's time to talk about child abuse.

Today we kickstarted the scoping phase of our campaign to raise awareness and reduce stigma, with an in-house survey to capture the unique insight and expertise of our staff team.

What we want to know:
❓ What do people currently think about child abuse?
❓ How comfortable are they talking about it?
❓ What language and terminology do they use?
❓ What gets in the way of people speaking up and asking for help?
❓ What could make it easier for people to seek support?

What we already know:
❌ Child abuse doesn't end with childhood

We want to help create an environment where understanding this truth becomes the norm, not the exception. Today we took the first step towards making that happen.

Over the coming weeks we will be opening the survey to a wider audience. If you would like to contribute, please drop your name in the comments and we will follow up in due course.

Some photos from last week's staff development day, another opportunity to bring everyone together under one roof and share updates from across our 3 service areas.

In a packed programme we covered:

☑️ group supervision
☑️ contracts and reporting requirements
☑️ safeguarding training
☑️ our forthcoming campaign to raise awareness and reduce stigma
☑️ operational updates

We also continued our Insights journey with trainer Gary Muir, who facilitated an exploration of our conscious and less conscious personas and how we can harness both to adapt and connect more effectively in the workplace.

A great day sparking plenty of conversation and reflection, we're looking forward to the next one already!

Chair of Trustees wanted 📣

Following the retiral of some long-standing trustees, we are looking for a new Chair to lead our board and support the future growth of the charity.

The Chair’s role will be crucial throughout this next phase. The right candidate will be someone who can provide steady leadership, support the Board through change and ensure the ongoing resilience of the organisation.

If you are a motivated and proactive leader who can provide strategic direction and help us achieve our vision, we want to hear from you!

Previous Chair experience is desirable but not essential. If you want to get involved but are not ready to take on the role of Chair, other Trustee positions are available.

Get in touch: [email protected]

Getting outside for a walk is not just one of the most effective forms of exercise, it's also a simple action that can have a huge benefit for our .

Emily, an Emotional Support Worker with our Adults Service, likes to get out for a walk after work. And with scenery like this to enjoy, we can totally see why!

There are many benefits to walking - it releases endorphins and dopamine which reduce stress and anxiety, and can also boost self-esteem. Walking outdoors in woodland or beautiful surroundings providers a mental re-set, great for stimulating creative thinking and problem-solving.

These beautiful paintings by Judy are often inspired by things she sees when she is out on her daily walk. Her top actions for better are walking, painting and crocheting - but not all at the same time!

Engaging in creative activities can significantly improve mood and help manage stress. The simple act of doodling can lift the spirits and give a sense of accomplishment.

Why not pick up a pencil or a crochet hook and give it a go?
