Some of you maybe aware but I (Lisa Holdsworth) have resigned as a Parish Councillor so no longer keep this up to date with the agenda or minutes. However, you should have all had a copy of this months newsletter in Grange Now, if you haven't read it then do but my main point of interest was that the Parish Council want views on 20's plenty, so if you have an opinion please email the PC on [email protected], it's not enough to think you have told someone before or mentioned it at a meeting even it needs to be indirect response to this request views. So please do contact them just with a short sentence 'I am/not in favour of 20's plenty in local current 30mph' or whatever your view is. Thanks

I am writing to you to inform you that King George V Park with Allithwaite Community Orchard and Meadow in your ward has been nominated in the Fields in Trust UK’s Best Park, as voted by YOU! 2017 Award. Fields in Trust protects and champions parks and green spaces in perpetuity for communities to enjoy because once these spaces are lost, they are lost forever. Since we were founded in 1925 we have protected over 2,700 sites, including playgrounds, playing fields, and formal and informal parkland totalling 30,000 acres of land across the UK.

The UK’s Best Park Award gives the public the opportunity to vote for their favourite local green space; the public vote will run until the 3rd November. The top park in each of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will be shortlisted before the winner is announced at the Fields in Trust Awards Ceremony at Lord's Cricket Ground on 29th November. As Councillors with a nominated park in your ward, we really hope that you will get behind the award and help promote the important resource that the local park is to your constituents. If you are able to show the competition support on social media we’d be grateful if you could use the hashtag , and please do consider voting for the park on our website. These green spaces are vital to building happy and healthy communities; yet sadly they continue to be threatened by all kinds of development. Our newly published research demonstrates a direct and statistically significant link between publicly accessible parks and green spaces and health and wellbeing. On average, the more frequently park or green space trips are made, the higher an individual's wellbeing.

Fields in Trust is a national charity operating throughout the UK to safeguard recreational spaces and campaign for better statutory protection for all kinds of outdoor sites. I have attached a briefing note on Fields in Trust’s work and you can download a copy of our Impact Report.

Concerned about what to do with all your apples?! Well, worry no more! You can take them to the Village Hall on 15th October and juice them to take back juice for cider or drinking. Expert help will be at hand by organisers Lynda Johnson and Dick Palmer (see attached). It promises to be a fun day!
