Promoting biodiversity involves creating varied habitats and food sources to support local wildlife, primarily by planting native species, reducing pesticide use, and allowing spaces to grow wild.

Effective actions include planting diverse, flowering plants, installing water features, building shelters for creatures, and creating wildlife corridors to connect green spaces.

Plant Native Trees & Flowers: Native species support the highest variety of local insects, birds, and mammals.

Get "Messy": Leave areas of grass unmown, keep piles of leaves or twigs, and avoid being too tidy, as9 this creates habitats for beetles, hedgehogs, and other creatures.

Opt for Biodiversity Over Lawns: Turn lawns into wildflower meadows to create food sources for pollinators like bees and butterflies.

Install Water Features: A small pond or even a birdbath provides essential water for wildlife and habitats for species like frogs.

Avoid Pesticides: Standard garden chemicals can harm beneficial pollinators and insects

Native UK ivy (Common Ivy or Hedera helix) is mildly poisonous.
While vastly different from the highly toxic, unrelated North American Toxicodendron radicans (Poison Ivy), handling it can still cause reactions.

Skin Contact: The sap contains compounds called falcarinol that can cause severe contact dermatitis, resulting in an itchy, blistering rash.

Ingestion: All parts of the plant (especially the berries and leaves) are mildly toxic if eaten, potentially causing vomiting, diarrhoea, and stomach upset in humans and pets
