🚂 Great news!

We’re delighted to share that Tracks of Life: Trains, People and Places has been extended until 30 September at Clitheroe Castle Museum.
This special exhibition celebrates the life and work of local railway enthusiast and photographer Ken Roberts (1928–2024).

A founding member of Ribble Valley Rail, Ken played a vital role in campaigning for the reopening of the Blackburn to Clitheroe line—successfully achieved in 1994. He is fondly remembered for his passion, dedication and tireless efforts.

On display are Ken’s striking photographs, capturing decades of railway history and his lifelong love of trains. Alongside these are model trains, railway memorabilia and cameras, kindly loaned by fellow railway historians and Ribble Valley Rail members, Brian Haworth and Peter Eastham.

🎟 Free entry to the Steward’s Gallery. Plan your visit 👉 https://www6.apps.lancashire.gov.uk/w/webpage/event-details?eventid=3495691

Marking 200 years of the railway, this exhibition has been curated in partnership with Ribble Valley Rail, Clitheroe Castle Museum and Community Rail Lancashire, with funding from the Community Rail Network and the Department for Transport.

Last chance to book! 🚆

Time is running out to book onto Greater Manchester Sight Loss Council’s Try a Train event – delivered in partnership with Community Rail Lancashire. This supportive, hands-on experience is designed to make train travel more accessible and less daunting for blind and partially sighted people.

📅 Tuesday, 19 May 2026
⏰ 10am – 4pm
📍 Manchester Victoria Station

The day will include:
• Time to explore a stationary train at your own pace
• A supported journey from Manchester to Liverpool
• Sighted guides and volunteers throughout
• A relaxed light lunch in Liverpool before returning

Rachel, a volunteer with Greater Manchester SLC, shares:
“I know that trying something new like train travel can feel daunting, but you won’t be doing it alone. This is a chance to meet others, share experiences, and take that step together - hopefully leaving feeling much more confident.”

⚠️ Spaces are nearly gone - book by midday on Friday 15 May.

To the right, white text on a dark-blue background reads: ‘Greater Manchester Sight Loss Council. Try a Train: Supporting confident train travel in Greater Manchester. A free event for blind and partially sighted people living in Greater Manchester.” In the top right is a cluster of light blue circular dots from SLC’s logo, and in the bottom right is the Sight Loss Councils logo with the strapline ‘A Vision for Change.'
