What if the goal isn’t having the right answer, but helping your child discover God in the conversation?

In this week’s podcast episode, Anna and Jess share a simple 4-step framework that help parents and carers navigate even the trickiest faith questions!

Ouch!

This one is uncomfortable to answer but it is one of the most important conversations you can have with your child or teenager.

Don't dodge it or be disppointed that they asked.

When a child or teenager asks some version of this, they have usually seen something that confused or hurt them.

Don't rush to defend anyone. Get curious. Ask what they saw or heard. Ask how it made them feel.

Then be honest with them. Christians do get things wrong. Jesus actually said a lot about hypocrisy himself.

Help them see that Jesus and his people are not always the same thing.
When people get it wrong, Jesus is still worth looking at.

When your child asks why God didn't answer their prayer, they probably aren't asking about theology.

They are asking about something that hurt or confused them.

Before you rush to explain, slow down and get curious. Ask what made them ask. Ask what they were hoping for.

Save this for when you need it.

Conversations about phones and children are everywhere right now.

But beyond rules and restrictions, what do our children actually need to grow into wise, confident digital citizens?

Anna explores why relationship - not just regulation - shapes resilience.

"Encourage your child to ask anything they want."

Anyone else instantly feel a bit sick!?

It's a nice idea. But we can feel really nervous about answering our kids’ and teenagers' spiritual questions. We worry that if we don’t give the right answer we’ll send them on the wrong track or disappoint them, or we feel exposed because we’re not 'theologically smart enough' to give the right answer or we don’t think we know our Bible well enough.

We got you!

Let’s remove that stress and make answering our kids’ and teens' spiritual questions as simple as following four steps.

None of us are experts in what church looks like across different countries around the world.

But we can all start a conversation that broadens our child or teenager’s view.

Ask a simple question and see if it leads to a bigger conversation.

How many of these have you heard... or felt (even without anyone saying them)? Part 1 got you talking and these are no less controversial.

Someone you know needs to read slide 3. You'll know who when you read it. Share it with them to encourage them today. And if slide 5 strikes a chord, hang around, we're going to be talking about questions all of next week.

Who watched the opening ceremony last night?

Were their any flags you didn't recognise? Or countries you were surprised to see there?

In every one of those countries represented, and plenty of others, there will be Christians worshipping the same God as you and I. It might look totally different to how we do it but God doesn't change.

Take a moment to point that out to your kid or teenager when you next spot a flag or watch some of the World Cup.

🎬🎥Filming for our new Five Key Tools Course

This summer Parenting for Faith are filming content for our brand-new Five Key Tools Course. Would you or someone that you know like to get involved? (Feel free to pass this invitation on).
We're looking for families who would be willing to try out one of the Parenting for Faith Key Tools during July and then tell us how it went. We'll send you a short video to watch and some ideas of things to try during July then film a short video call with you in August, sharing your experience, which could be included in the new course.

You don't need to have it all together or be the "perfect" family. We want to hear from real families living real life. We're looking for a wide range of experiences, family shapes and stories, because every family's journey is different.

Interested? We'd love to hear from you! Fill out this quick form (https://forms.office.com/e/bksHWjVjvM) to let us know if you're interested!

Sometimes children and teenagers can feel like church is just their family, their friends and their building.

Framing helps them see the bigger picture.

This week, try one sentence before church:
"I wonder who else is worshipping God today?"

You might be surprised where the conversation goes.
