We are delighted to announce that Scottish Ministers have awarded NESFIT funding from the Just Transition Fund.

This funding will seriously increase our capability for outreach, training and awareness and we can’t wait to get started!

Thanks to Aberdeen City Council for supporting our bid and all our volunteers who make things happen in the background.

Do you know someone who's passionate about a 'just transition' and how retrofit can be part of it?

NESFIT are a partner the JUST-Systems project, a 5 year UKRI funded project with the University of Aberdeen. It is developing and applying several initiatives that place people and communities at the centre of the transition to net zero, accelerating action on decarbonisation, local development, housing, fuel poverty and social justice.

The project has a case study in Torry, Aberdeen and we're looking for someone to help engage with the community to inform the research.

The post is 2 days a week, working for the university, alongside NESFIT and other stakeholders in the Torry community.

Job Opening - Just Systems Knowledge Exchange Officer

The role of the Knowledge Exchange Officer is to lead on community liaison and engagement in the Aberdeen case study that centres on Torry. This role will act as a bridge between the research activities in JUST-Systems, our partnership with key local organisations and the community of Torry where our work is addressing the interlinked issues of housing, sustainable local development, fuel poverty and retrofit.

JUST-Systems is a £5.6 million research programme, funded by the UKRI ‘Systems approaches to advance the UK’s transition to net zero’. This funding opportunity is supported through UKRI’s strategic theme

Understanding Domestic Retrofit (NOCN Level 2) Tuesday 17 – Thursday 19 March | 9:00am – 5:00pm. A practical introduction to domestic retrofit, covering PAS 2035, Trustmark and whole-house approaches. Suitable for those working in construction, housing, energy advice, or those new to retrofit.

This year NESFIT applied for the Just Transition Fund, and we were rejected for the second time. Here's a bit about our bid and why we need to broaden the discussion around what a "Just Transition" really means.

The transition in buildings must put people first and we need places to have those conversations, to learn from each other and to design the right solution.

Thanks to Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, NESCAN Hub and JUST-Systems who supported our bid and the amazing team of volunteers who helped put the bid together, especially Donna Ward and Erik Dalhuijsen. Writing funding applications is hard, thankless, time consuming work.

If you support the idea that a just transition shouldn't just be about oil & gas and renewables, and that we need to address the worst housing stock in Europe, then please share this message, write to your MSPs and become a member of the North East Scotland Retrofit Hub
