What if I told you nature invented something like fibre optics… thousands of years before humans did?

Meet the incredible Glass Sponge! 🧽🔬

Living deep beneath the ocean, these extraordinary creatures build skeletons from silica — the material used to make glass. Even more amazing, their tiny glass-like structures called spicules can guide light in a way similar to fibre-optic cables. 🤯💡

And some glass sponges are thought to live for thousands of years — potentially up to 10,000! 🌊⏳

The deeper we explore our oceans, the more we realise how much there is still to discover.

💙 Our ocean is home to incredible creatures and species. Protecting it means protecting wonders we may not even have discovered yet.

Today was one of those days I’ll remember for a very long time! 🥹✨

I was so excited to be a finalist for the Young Hero Award at the BBC Make a Difference Awards – Radio Scotland.

I didn’t take home the overall Young Hero Award, but I received something incredibly special — I was HIGHLY COMMENDED for my work! 🏆💜

When I started The Saash Show, I just wanted to talk about the things I love and care about — our oceans, animals, plastic pollution, bees and our amazing planet. 🌊🦈🐝🌱

To have that work recognised by the BBC at just 8 years old feels AMAZING!

And today reminded me of something important:

🌟 Making a difference isn’t about coming first. It’s about caring enough to start.

Thank you to everyone who watches my videos, encourages my ideas and helps me spread the message about protecting our planet. 🌎

This Highly Commended Young Hero is definitely not stopping here! 😉💚

More adventures, more conservation and lots more curiosity to come on The Saash Show! 🌊🌱✨

When I first found out, I couldn’t believe it! To be recognised for something I care so much about means the world to me.

Of course, I’d love to win 🤞🏆 — but honestly, becoming a finalist already feels like a huge achievement. Whatever happens on the day, I’m going to enjoy every moment, feel proud of how far I’ve come, and be grateful for everyone who has supported me along the way.

Here’s to the next chapter! 🚀✨

🌊 Did you know there’s an ocean animal that can use the Sun’s energy like a plant? 🌞🐌

Meet the Solar-Powered Sea Slug — one of the most amazing creatures in our oceans!

This tiny sea slug steals chloroplasts from algae and uses sunlight to help make energy. Scientists call this process photosynthesis, and it’s one of the reasons this little creature is so special.

💙 The more we learn about ocean life, the more we understand why protecting our oceans matters.

Every year, pollution threatens thousands of incredible marine species. By reducing plastic waste and keeping our oceans clean, we can help protect these amazing creatures for future generations.

Join Saashwat as he shares 3 amazing reasons why we must protect our oceans:💙 Oceans produce about 50% of the oxygen we breathe🌍 They absorb carbon dioxide and help fight climate change🪸 Coral reefs support 25% of all marine species, even though they cover less than 1% of the ocean floor
Our oceans are full of incredible life, but they need our help. Every small action—using less plastic, recycling, and keeping beaches clean—can make a big difference.
