Junior Comedy Inc

Junior Comedy Inc Comedy, performing arts and stage craft group at Danestone Community Centre for young comedians, entertainers and performers in Aberdeen.

Junior Comedy Inc is a youth initiative set up in 2014 by Danestone Community Centre for young people who are interested in comedy, performing arts and stage craft. The group was set up following a survey of 1,600 young people in Bridge of Don and Danestone areas which showed that there was very little youth provision in Aberdeen at the weekend and that there was a demand for comedy and performing

arts-type activities. We are currently developing an exciting programme of workshops which will include writing and performing as well as more behind-the-scene activities such as directing, promotion, lighting and sound. We are working in partnership with Pepela Productions and have enlisted the help of local promoter and entertainer, Kenny Luke to help us deliver the programme. Other local performers and arts organisations will take part in workshops too. Junior Comedy Inc has received support from many avenues including the Scottish Parliament, Police Scotland, Aberdeen's Community Safety Partnership, Bridge of Don and Oldmachar Learning Partnership, Big Lottery and Aberdeen City Council. See our website for further information on the programme and how to join.

And finally we must thank the magnificent Hercufleas and his travelling flea circus provided to us by the Balloon Mannies. Junior Comedy Inc and our guests were incredibly fortunate to have such a unique performer at the launch event, with the flea circus being the only one in the north of Scotland. We look forward to possibly working with Darren and Norn again in the future at one of the Junior Comedy Inc workshops. You should also keep an eye out for the magnificient Hercufleas and his fabulous flea circus at this year's Aberdeen Highland Games. Find out more about the brilliant Balloon Mannies by visiting their website, www.balloon-mannies.co.uk.

We'd also like to thank the representatives from the Bridge of Don and Oldmachar Learning Partnership for the support they've given us to get up and running and for bringing their graffiti wall along to the event last night. We look forward to doing lots more work with them in the future.

There were also a number of volunteers and centre staff who helped out on the night who deserve a big thanks including the chief comedy photographer Michelle Duff, who manned the photo booth and captured some awesome shots from the show. We now have some great material to get our gallery started on the JCI website. There were also the netball ladies, committee members, caretakers and other volunteers who all did their bit helping to set up, blow up balloons and tidy up after the show. We're very grateful for all their help. Charlie, our caretaker pictured, deserves another big smooch as he worked especially hard after the show to ensure the centre was ready for the bowlers' round robin and Pepela Aberdeen rehearsals today.

To round up our thank yous to the performers, we also need to say a big well done to this pair of lovable rogues Kenny Luke and Davy Mackay. Event host Kenny Luke did a grand job and we look forward to the programme of workshops he has prepared for Junior Comedy Inc. We were delighted Davy could join us. He pulled out all the stops to be with us last minute, so a big thank you to him again. We also need to mention Gordon Bathgate who unfortunately couldn't be with us on the evening, but who very kindly helped us with the recordings for the opening soundtrack and Kenny's intro to the stage.

Next up to thank is Chloe Hart who brought more than a touch of her fabulous West End glamour to the stage at Danestone. What can we say. Wow. Just WOW. Her rendition of Somebody to Love was quite simply spectacular. Hopefully we will get an opportunity to work with her again in the future.
