Americans in Alsace, known locally as AIA, has been helping Americans and Canadians who are living in this region of France for more than 20 years. AIA is a strong and vibrant association and continues to grow each year. We currently have over 300 members. AIA offers opportunities to lear

n about French culture as well as providing beneficial resources that help people acclimate to a different way of life. We also bring a part of our own heritage to France, by recognizing major U.S. and Canadian holidays including celebrating some important ones, like the 4th of July, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. AIA is a unique organization that provides members that have arrived in Alsace from thousands of miles away an established network of friends where you are welcomed to the neighborhood as part of the “family”. Happy October, AIA!

In addition to a list of the usual suspects, we're pleased to be able to offer French Conversation circles again! We hope that you've all found your rhythm since getting back into the swing of things and aren't too fazed by the rather abrupt plunge into fall we've taken this last week and a half or so!

For any newer folks to the region, we have these tips to ward off the gray-season blues:
☕ consider warming up with a cup of coffee and catching up with fellow AIA members at a coffee chat this month
📚 join a book club gathering or attend a virtual move club discussion
🍻 don't miss the happy hour train! One of our most popular events, nothing helps make it feel like the sun's out like cheersing over a cold beverage in good company.

If you'd like to become a member of AIA, please visit our website.

🌺 Hello, everyone! 🌺

We hope you all enjoyed the first long weekend of what looks to be many potential ones to come this month. 👀

Although the weather is giving more fall than spring, we hope you've been enjoying the sun and are planning to come out for one (or more!) events in May.

First things first though -- registration!

Hello members: As you know, AIA is a non-partisan organization dedicated to serving the US community in Alsace.

AIA and its social channels were conceived of as a place for people to come together, build friendships, and find community based on shared common ground (official ties to the US).

However, during extraordinary times, we may share political information as it pertains directly to the American community.
This is one of those times.

The Consulate General in Strasbourg is at risk of being closed following widespread reports that the current US administration has directed the State Department to reduce its workforce in France.

Other locations in France being evaluated for closure include: Lyon, Rennes, and Bordeaux.

The Consulate General in Strasbourg provides many important services, including:

-Emergency Assistance
-Passport and Citizenship services for U.S. citizens.
-Notarial Services are available to U.S. and non-U.S. passport holders.
-A to Z Listing of Resources and Services: compiled list of resources for Americans living overseas, including information and assistance concerning administrative and personal matters.

The potential closure of the CG stands to negatively impact the US community in Alsace.

If you feel strongly about the potential closure, we invite you to join us in a peaceful protest outside the CG this Friday, March 7th at 12:30 PM. The address 15 Av. d'Alsace. Thank you.

Hello, Americans in Alsace!

Was it just us, or did February zoom RIGHT by?

As the sun starts to peek out and the weather warms up, perhaps you'd like to consider joining us for one (or more!) of our upcoming outings?

Now's the time to register to join if so! We have many of the usual suspects on deck for this month, but looking ahead we have several more boutique events coming up, including a bicycle tour of the vineyards around Eguisheim and our annual summer BBQ at Pourtales Plage.

Happy February, everyone!

We've organized a great lineup of events for February (if we do say so ourselves) and have also begun organizing a catalog of local events at the end of the Grapevine to help members identify events of personal interest that may foster a deeper sense of integration and community in the Alsace region.

If you would like to join AIA this year, you may do so at our website under the "membership" tab.

Finally, a small pro tip from the Grapevine: If we have any Superbowl fans seeking a place to watch the game this weekend, Indiana Cafe is screening both the game and offering a "formule" of all the necessary game-day bites to go along.

Thanks and have a great month everyone!
