AIA provides Americans and Canadians living in Alsace with information, resources and social activities to help feel at home!

Americans in Alsace, known locally as AIA, has been helping Americans and Canadians who are living in this region of France for more than 20 years. AIA is a strong and vibrant association and continues to grow each year. We currently have over 300 members. AIA offers opportunities to learn about French culture as well as providing beneficial resources that help people acclimate to a different way of life. We also bring a part of our own heritage to France, by recognizing major U.S. and Canadian holidays including celebrating some important ones, like the 4th of July, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. AIA is a unique organization that provides members that have arrived in Alsace from thousands of miles away an established network of friends where you are welcomed to the neighborhood as part of the “family”. Happy October, AIA! 🎃

With fall's arrival to Alsace comes a special time of year: the opportunity to fill your social calendar as much as you want to (which we recommend doing before the Great Gray (copyright pending) of January and February. Kidding. Kind of. Not really 😅

This time of year is the most pleasantly busy for us all as we navigate our stages of life in this little pocket of the world, often welcoming visiting friends and family as well. It's always a joy to come together to catch up, share updates, and generally build that sense of village togetherness that this community is all about.

With that, we'd also like to announce a huge thank you to our newest 2026-2027 board members for hitting the ground running, being the first to jump in with ideas for new events, and having excellent follow-through. 🙌

Volunteering and a sense of community spirit truly make this organization go 'round. If you've been thinking about dipping your toe in, a great place to start may be the big fall festival on October 31st, especially if you have kids. And just like that, we're in the midst of summer!

This one has been something of a rough one for our Americans currently in Alsace, as a monster heatwave rolled through recently.

To that point, we hope everyone is staying cool! The summer months are slower on our end as school gets out, work slows down, and long weekends and extended trips (often to visit family in other countries) fill the calendars.

Still, we've got a fair number of events on deck, so if you're around, come check them out 😊

Happy June, everyone!

This is just a sampling of what our group gets up to these days -- between the active WhatsApp group chatter on everything from how to navigate renting real estate in Strasbourg (TL;DR, it's normal if it's pretty tough!) to the history of waterways and boats in the Alsace, there's sure to be a thread where you can find your people 🤗

Joining is easy and we run a pretty standard series of events every month that members can use as opportunities to wade in and socialize, whether you prefer doing so over a b**r, a coffee, or a book, there's a fit to be found for all personalities 😌

Here's to easing into summer and enjoying this beautiful region we get to call home.

Last week, members of the Franco-American community gathered to celebrate 160 years of our wonderful Strasbourg Consulate.

The evening was full of wonderful performances -- a true "spectacle" of the best of singers and performers living (somewhat) locally 😁

Thank you to everyone who had a hand in organizing and participating in this wonderful event. We are so fortunate it have such a wonderful team at the Consulate 🇺🇸 🇫🇷

Happy October, AIA!

In addition to a list of the usual suspects, we're pleased to be able to offer French Conversation circles again! We hope that you've all found your rhythm since getting back into the swing of things and aren't too fazed by the rather abrupt plunge into fall we've taken this last week and a half or so!

For any newer folks to the region, we have these tips to ward off the gray-season blues:
☕ consider warming up with a cup of coffee and catching up with fellow AIA members at a coffee chat this month
📚 join a book club gathering or attend a virtual move club discussion
🍻 don't miss the happy hour train! One of our most popular events, nothing helps make it feel like the sun's out like cheersing over a cold beverage in good company.
