🎬 ThermEcoWat first video is finally ready!
After several rounds of review and collective work across the partnership, we are pleased to announce that the final version of the first ThermEcoWat video has now been validated.
This video showcases our common ambition: supporting thermal territories in adapting to climate change through scientific knowledge, territorial cooperation and concrete adaptation pathways.
A big thank you to all ThermEcoWat partners for their contributions!
Stay tuned, more project results and upcoming dissemination activities will follow in the coming months.

Looking back at the ThermEcoWat Transnational Workshop in Madrid!

From 19 to 21 May 2026, the ThermEcoWat project partners gathered in Madrid, hosted by CN IGME-CSIC, for the project’s 4th Transnational Workshop.

Over three days, each of the three pilot sites – São Pedro do Sul (Portugal), Caldes de Montbui (Spain) and Chaudes-Aigues (France) – presented the progress of their work on adapting thermal territories to climate change.

This meeting marks an important milestone for the project: all three pilot sites have now reached a first presentation of their action and adaptation plans, which are currently being further developed and consolidated. These plans build on territorial analyses, scientific data, the TEW Knowledge Graph (TEW KG), the assessment of possible solutions and their prioritisation.

This workshop was the 4th and final transnational workshop before the project’s final event, which will take place in Brussels, where consolidated results will be presented.

A big thank you to all partners for their commitment, and to CN IGME-CSIC for hosting and organising this event.

Sylvia Becerra, Sociologist in the environment and risk, CNRS (FR) answers the following questions: What are the main challenges to be met for a sustainable management of thermal resources? How can the social sciences and humanities enrich the reflection on how thermal resorts can adapt to climate change?

🌿 ThermEcoWat – Day 3 in Ourense! ♨️

Our final day focused on sharing the outcomes of three days of intense work between partners from 🇫🇷 France, 🇪🇸 Spain, and 🇵🇹 Portugal.

💬 The morning plenary brought together all project partners to present the draft adaptation action plans for each pilot site:

- Chaudes-Aigues (FR): energy recovery and geothermal governance,

- Caldes de Montbui (ES): integration of the thermal resource into local energy planning,

- São Pedro do Sul (PT): adaptation strategy after climate disasters.

💧 The day continued with a field visit to the AQUAPRED pilot site in Laias, an innovative platform for monitoring thermal water resources.
This visit offered a concrete demonstration of how scientific research can support local management of thermal waters.

🤝 These three days of exchanges and discoveries highlighted how European cooperation helps thermal towns turn climate challenges into opportunities for innovation and sustainability.

A big thank you to our hosts Diputación de Ourense for their warm welcome, and to all participants for their commitment and inspi- RED

🌞 Good morning from Laias – Day 3 of the ThermEcoWat Workshop!

Yesterday was a full and inspiring day for our teams from France, Spain and Portugal.
We worked intensively in national groups to shape each local adaptation action plan, identifying obstacles, levers and opportunities to make our thermal towns stronger in the face of climate change.

♨️ The afternoon field visits, from As Burgas and Chavasqueira to the University of Vigo’s geothermal site, reminded us how heritage and innovation can go hand in hand.

💬 Today, we move into the final phase: validating national strategies, comparing approaches and identifying the next steps together. The goal? Turn this collective intelligence into concrete roadmaps for resilient and sustainable thermal territories across Southern Europe.

Let’s make this last day count! 💪

They represent an engineering consultancy specialized in supporting public contracting authorities (audit of the energy potential) and answer the following question: Do you see opportunities for economic diversification for spa towns? What good practice observed in other spa towns, such as Evaux-les-Bains or Caldes de Montbui and Sao Pedro do Sul could be applied?
