American Friends of Cité du Vin (501(C)(3) raises public awareness & financial support for La Cité du Vin, Bordeaux, France to promote educational exhibits supporting wine culture and history, the remarkable people behind the wines and their stories La Cité du Vin, located in Bordeaux, France, is an architecturally unique international center dedicated to global wine culture, environs and history.

La Cité showcases vineyards from around the world through both permanent and temporary multi-media, multi-sensory and interactive exhibits, wine culture workshops, numerous events and hosts a research library of over 900 books in 22 languages. Beginning in 2014 with a successful patronage campaign to name the Thomas Jefferson Auditorium in the Center, AFCV continues to play a vital role in supporting educational exhibits that focus the world’s attention on the cultures and civilizations of wine history, the extraordinary people behind the wines and their stories.

, in the heart of Pomerol’s history, has been family-owned since 1578, and is still thriving! Our guests were treated to an unforgettable visit to the history, culture, and wine in Pomerol. 

Messieurs Bruno and Gonzague de Lambert welcomed us on a journey through time, from a 1785 atlas showing the infancy of the United States to a vertical tasting of their cherished vintages, beginning with 1970.

Our guests enjoyed meeting the new Managing Director, Marie-Laure Latorre, whose elegant presentation and perfect pairings made the lunch experience truly special.

With roots tracing back to the Knights Hospitallers, embodies Pomerol’s noble spirit. Hosted by Monsieur Nicolas de Bailliencourt, our visit combined family charm, history, and unforgettable wines.

This group, bearing a gift of a vintage apple from the Big Apple, was especially grateful for the opportunity to experience firsthand the history, elegance, and enduring legacy of this remarkable estate. Our extraordinary visit was a moment our guests will long remember, from the exquisite wines to Madame Inès’ homemade gougère!

Our time with M. de Balliencourt was an honor and a privilege, and will be cherished as a highlight of our trip.

With a 360-degree view of Pomerol and candlelight and conversation, we celebrated dinner at Château Petit-Village with the new Managing Director, Mme Laudrin, and the winemaker, M. Pirou.

M. Pirou regaled us with stories of restored elegance and renewed vineyards, while we tasted wines full of vitality and finesse, and shared a toast to health and happiness with friends old and new.

Hosted by the new Managing Director, lauren_laudrin, our first day of the American Friends trip ended beautifully with a tour of the exquisite and a dinner with a 360 view of Pomerol at .

Once home to the Knights of St. John, Château Beauregard embodies centuries of history and architectural splendor. Today, its organic vineyards and elegant wines reflect a commitment to the land and to the timeless harmony of clay and vine.

A legend of , Vieux Château Certan welcomed us with open arms. Guided by the incomparable Alexandre Thienpont, we explored history, humor, and a vision that continues to shape Bordeaux’s future. Our visit to was a true highlight of our time in Pomerol, and we will be forever grateful.

Celebrating its 100th Anniversary Vintage year in 2024, VCC is an exemplary wine demonstrating a century of elegance and quiet power.

What an exceptional way to begin our tour of Pomerol, with visits to two legends of wine at & .

At just 2.8 hectares, Le Pin is small in size but legendary in spirit. With diana.garcia.berrouet as our host, we discovered the essence of rarity, handcrafted perfection born from passion, patience, and a single pine tree that gave the estate its name.
M. Jacques Thienpont joined our tour to answer questions and relate the storied history of this small but mighty estate!
🍷 Proof that greatness sometimes comes in the smallest parcels.

At Château Clinet, we met Nathalie Bez, who provided an instructional visit to the vineyard, chai, and tasting room, where she shared several lovely vintages. It’s modern Bordeaux at its finest.

Lunch at Château Séraphine was a breath of fresh air where innovation meets talented winemaking with heart. After a tour of and tasting of the family properties, including a surprise , winemaker Charlotte Krajewski shared her family’s story and her modern vision for Pomerol, paired with an unforgettable meal by Chef Tetsuroh Miyamoto, blending French, Asian & Japanese artistry. It was an exquisite pairing of gastronomy and viticulture!

Announcing the launch of the online auction to support the 2026 cultural activities and marking the 10th anniversary of La Cité du Vin!

For wine lovers and collectors, sixty-four exceptional lots are on sale.
- Extraordinary wines coming directly from the cellars of the most renowned vineyards.
- Unique wine tourism experiences, such as visits, tastings, dinners, or overnight stays in wine estates in Bordeaux and beyond, in France and around the world.

Each estate that participated in the auction generously donated its lots to the Foundation for Wine Culture and Civilizations, which is offering them for sale.

The online sale organized by the Cité du Vin and Sotheby’s France takes place from October 7 to October 27, 2025, and is accessible online on the Sotheby's wine website. What a treat! Day 3 of the AFCDV's 2024 tour began early with an informative and fun visit to Chateau Pavie
Next, we immersed ourselves in 600 years of history at Couvent des Jacobins in the heart of the UNESCO village of Saint-Émilion. The team at le Couvent indulged us with a chef's lunch, property wines, and a tour of the historic quarries. While there, our guests had the rare opportunity to watch the "topping off" of a 30-year-old vintage.
We toured Chateau-Figeac’s recently inaugurated underground chai and tasted its distinctive wines on a beautiful afternoon.

Lastly, we'd like to thank our gracious hosts, the von Neipperg family, who welcomed us to Château for a tour and then an exquisitely prepared dinner paired with the beautiful wines of the family estates Vignobles Comtes von Neipperg / Vins
