We continue our series revisiting chapters of Lebanon’s history to better understand our present and the future we want to build 🇱🇧

On the 7th of May 2008, armed clashes erupted in Beirut after Hezbollah turned its weapons inward against fellow Lebanese.

For many, it marked a historic turning point: the moment political disagreements were no longer settled through institutions and dialogue, but through force.

On 17 March 2026, Rooted met with H.E. Mr. Rabih El Chaer , Ambassador of Lebanon to France (Ambassade du Liban en France), to discuss the current crisis in Lebanon and explore ways in which Lebanese diaspora youth can contribute constructively during this difficult period.

During the meeting, we presented the work of our NGO and expressed our support for the Lebanese state and its institutions. We also shared a series of considered proposals, through letters addressed to the President of the Republic H.E. General Joseph Aoun and the Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Nawaf Salam, to contribute to ongoing reflections on the crisis response and to support efforts aimed at restoring confidence in public institutions.

Finally, we were invited to contribute to the embassy’s crisis coordination efforts of humanitarian aid being sent to Lebanon. Rooted will participate in this initiative by supporting logistics and communication efforts, and will also contribute to strengthening the embassy’s overall communication strategy.

To understand where Lebanon is today, we need to revisit the chapters that shaped it 🇱🇧

On 14 February 2005, Hariri was assassinated, and this marked a turning point in Lebanese history.
