Fila is taken from IzuPi latest album LIAN HUSI REZILÉNSIA (The Voice of Resilience). Written and composed by Deonizio Rodrigues Pereira “IZUPI”, the track features vocals and backing vocals by Izu and Dulce Soares. Izu states FILA, is a piece of music I wrote as a representation of the feelings of the missing children who disappeared from 1975 to 1999 during the invasion, who were forcibly taken from their families by Indonesian troops. A deep feeling of nostalgia that they endured for a long time until they grew up. Some returned, and some disappeared and have not returned to this day. These longings ring strongly in their hearts and minds, but the hope that they have never dies, with a big dream that they have that one day they will return to see their hometown, their family and their homeland Timor Lorosae as before they left with tears, sorrow and fear that rings strongly in their mind and heart. Timor Lorosae, I returned, returned home to see my village, see my family, and see my country as before when I was young. Feto Nia Lian, Feto Nia Istoria is a powerful milestone for Timor-Leste's music and cultural storytelling. This project ensures that women's voices are heard, celebrated, and preserved for future generations. Through deeply personal songs, the women involved share stories of resilience, leadership, transformation, and strength, reflecting both past and present experiences. This album was brought to life by an incredible team through the Wantok Musik Foundation, including producers and sound engineers, First Nations artists Candice Lorrae (Jawoyn and Torres Strait Island) and Beatrice Lewis (Haiku Hands, Kardajala Kirridarra), Artistic Director David Bridie, and local producer Lena Caminha. Additional artistic support came from respected Timorese artists Jovie Guterres, Malena de Jesus, and Etson Caminha. A special thanks to Timor-Leste filmmaker Mana Bety Reis, who not only captured several music videos from the project but also created a moving and inspiring documentary that beautifully highlights the journey behind this remarkable collaboration. Thank you to everyone who has watched, shared, and supported this important celebration of Timorese women's stories and voices. Come celebrate the launch in Dili on 30 Oct at Fundação Oriente em Timor-Leste, Melbourne Recital Centre 20 November and Riverside Parramatta 21 November.

"Lolobremu" is the name of a rare and extraordinary talent emerging from Timor-Leste. Born Damiao Soares Afonso in Liquiçá, west of Dili, he is a pianist, singer and musicians of remarkable vision, drawing on traditional Timorese melodies and motifs and adapting them to a contemporary sound. His debut album, Lolobremu, is a genuinely original release, boldly fusing ancestral sounds with modern piano artistry and announcing him as a singular new voice in Timorese music. His story carries a significance beyond music alone. The Fasi ‘A Fafine workshops started in Tonga with a series of talks and workshops curated by Ofa Guttenbeil-Likiliki covering Tongan songwriting and music, issues for women, climate change and how to build confidence as musicians. We were welcomed by Lesila Lokotui and joined by Tongan speakers from across the world who shared their thoughts and experiences to shape the songwriting and recording in the coming weeks.

Fasi ‘a Fafine - Meet the Mentors
Fasi ‘a Fafine is taking place from 14 September in Tonga and we are calling out to women with a talent and passion for music performance, sound engineering, songwriting, storytelling, and film-making. The project team and mentors will provide support throughout Fasi ‘a Fafine and the aim is to produce and release an album of stunning Tongan songs through Wantok Musik. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of this women’s album and work with these incredible mentors:
Mia Kami is a Tongan singer/songwriter & educator. She is passionate about youth & community development, the importance of education and the power of Pacific people as guardians & stewards of Oceania. She channels her passions into songwriting & uses her music to tell her stories as a young Pacific woman. She believes that art is the strongest form of storytelling that can connect her Pacific communities to their ancestors & their descendants. With a growing love for education, Mia is also navigating ways to incorporate her decade of experiences in climate & ocean conservation spaces into formal education systems.

Aubrie Mitchell is an artist, songwriter, producer, and audio engineer from Auckland, New Zealand, whose work sits at the intersection of pop, electronica, and indie. She brings both technical precision and creative sensitivity to every project. Aubrie previously served as Studio Manager at BIG FAN - the community-driven music space founded by Joel Little; before moving into Golden Age Studios, the studio where Lorde’s debut album was created. Aubrie has collaborated with leading NZ and international artists including Rita Ora, Brooke Ligertwood, Prateek Kuhad, and many more, building a reputation as both a trusted collaborator and an emerging artist in her own right.

Pā'utu-'O-Vava'u-Lahi Dr Adriana Māhanga Lear is a Tongan-Australian interdisciplinary sound and visual artist, musician and composer/producer, and researcher and educator in Pacific arts and cultural development. Adriana holds ancestral ties to Tu'anuku, Vava'u and Vaipoa, Niuatoputapu.

Beatrice Lewis: Beatrice Lewis is an electronic music producer, songwriter and performer working across composition, performance and interdisciplinary collaboration. She is a member of internationally acclaimed dance punk act Haiku Hands and award-winning Indigenous project Kardajala Kirridarra, while also developing her solo practice.
