✨ Soft Launch of the Ua Ni Cagi Charity Ball ✨

The Lau Education Charitable Trust proudly held the soft launch of its 2026 flagship fundraising event, the Ua Ni Cagi Charity Ball, at the iconic Grand Pacific Hotel today, leading up to the main gala in August.

We were honored to host media and partners as we shared our vision for improving maritime education across the Lau Islands.

“Ua Ni Cagi: The Current of the Wind” speaks to the unseen wind that moves the waves, a quiet yet powerful force that brings life, hope, and change. It reflects the movement of unity and generosity that continues to uplift our students and schools across the islands.

Malo vakalevu a vakadrakai to our LECT Fiji Events Committee, our amazing volunteers, and everyone working tirelessly on the ground. Your dedication, creativity, and tireless work behind the scenes is what brings this vision to life.

We also thank our media representatives who attended and helped us amplify this important mission.

Two years ago almost to the day, LECT signed a SGP-funded UNDP project after being awarded a US$40K Grant to solarise Moce Secondary School. Additional financial contributions from the high school, LECT and private donors enabled the Kindergarten (ECC) and four (4) staff quarters to be included in the total FJD$105K project, which has been our organisation's largest single undertaking to-date☀️

After a month of pre-mobilisation prep with LECT, the appointed contractor Sunray Solar-Narahari Electrical took two weeks to undertake the installation with two LECT on-site volunteers Pauliasi Bunoa and Bill Tuiketei travelling with the team and were our eyes, ears and traditional protocols representatives to ensure smooth sailing of every aspect of this significant undertaking💛 Ifereimi Taufa Peni Toga

LECT's EYES AND EARS ON THE GROUND ARE OUR VOLUNTEERS🙏🏽

Besides deliveries of equipment, our hardworking volunteers that have also included our Senior Co-Patron as well as travelling Directors, are also required to take photographs and videos - lots of them - out in the field, and collect feedback and information wherever possible, and time permitting🌝

This helps in refining our delivery systems, identifying most urgent needs, subsequent selections of most appropriate equipment from overseas and targeting assistance for each school accordingly👌🏾

Carrying out of these needed volunteer functions is still a "work in progress" and LECT is always striving to improve them within the limited resources it has💛

Below are a couple of videos that will help to portray the general conditions of our village communities and schools and under which our teachers and students are supposed to work within every day😐

LECT TAKES SOLARBUDDY NORTH🩵

Rotary Taveuni and LECT have teamed up to deliver SolarBuddy study lamps to the students and teachers of Taveuni and the surrounding islands of Qamea, Rabi and Kioa without electricity, with some 2,000+ “Junior Buddies” to be distributed over the coming weeks🙌🏽

Yesterday, Paul Purvis and Byron Fisher of Rotary brought happiness and smiles to the faces of Lavena and Bouma primary school students who now have the ability to study at night☀️

TAVEUNI SCHOOLS TO RECEIVE SOLARBUDDY LAMPS THIS MONTH🙌🏽

Including the surrounding islands of Qamea, Rabi and Kioa, students and teachers in schools on the Garden Island of Taveuni without power “from the grid” will receive SolarBuddy.org study lamps that will greatly improve their night study capabilities👌🏽☀️

Commencing this week, distribution will begin on Taveuni by LECT’s partner Rotary Taveuni, enabled by Fiji Airways through their domestic carrier Fiji Link who provided free freight to Matei Airport.

Crucial to this whole process has been Model Towns/Koro-i-Pita who have provided storage and transportation logistics in the past seven months for LECT and Solarbuddy at their Naikabula “Community Village”🙏🏽💯🥰

After receiving approval from the Divisional Education Office Northern in the past two weeks, Lavena and Bouma will be the first beneficiaries and distribution is planned to be mostly completed by the end of July🤞🏽🌝

Keep tuned on our Cakaudrove progress over the next month💕
