Cancer myths are like sneaky rumors they stir up fear or false hope without a shred of truth. Busting these myths isn’t just smart, it’s lifesaving.

Every time we share the facts, we spread hope, strength, and awareness across Fiji and beyond🎗️

The journey of the last 2 months has been one of care, connection, and community impact. At Fiji Cancer Society, every step we take is guided by our mission to support patients, raise awareness, and strengthen advocacy. Vinaka vakalevu to everyone who walked with us these past two months, together, we are weaving hope, strength, and unity across Fiji.

It starts as a casual habit, a social ritual, or a quick way to cope with stress. For a healthy, normal person, a hospital bed feels worlds away. The body is resilient, and because the internal damage happens in silence, it’s easy to believe you are the exception to the rule.🚬

But to***co is patient. Every single puff alters the body's chemistry, slowly setting off a chain reaction that transforms a thriving, active life into a medical emergency. Whether it ends in a cancer ward or a cardiac intensive care unit, the path from a cigarette to a hospital bed is paved with severe Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).🎗

World No To***co Day is one of the most critical windows of the year to drive home a life-saving message. While national conversations often highlight non-communicable diseases (NCDs) broadly, this day allows us to shine a direct spotlight on the leading preventable cause of multiple cancers affecting Fijians.

To***co use is a massive catalyst for the national cancer burden. Lung cancer remains incredibly difficult to treat locally, but the risk doesn't stop there.
To***co use and second-hand smoke exposure are heavily linked to lip, oral cavity, throat, esophageal, and cervical cancers—many of which the Society fights on the front lines every day through patient support services and advocacy.

Beyond traditional suki and manufactured ci******es, a major emerging battleground is the modern rise of va**ng and e-ci******es among Fijian youth, challenging communities to rethink what "to***co-free" looks like today.

Fiji Cancer Society west team conducted a Health Screening at Pernix Vuda last week, working hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Health & Medical Services - Fiji Lautoka. With support from NCD, HIV services, a consultant, and a Dietician team, the outreach highlighted the importance of early detection, prevention, and lifestyle awareness. 🎗️

Key Awareness Points:
✅Early detection makes treatment more effective.
✅Awareness of NCDs, HIV, and diabetes helps communities take control of their health.
✅Diet and lifestyle play a vital role in preventing cancer and chronic diseases.

Together, we are raising awareness, empowering communities, and building a healthier Fiji.
