Human Care Fiji – Our Story
Bula!
We’re a group of friends who met at MGM High School between 1990 and 1994. We’ve stayed close ever since, still living in Fiji, still catching up regularly. When the COVID pandemic hit and life got tougher for many families, we started helping where we could - quietly and informally at first because
we felt we were in a position to do something.
That simple start has now grown into a registered charitable trust: Human Care Fiji.
We’re part of a wider family alongside Human Care Australia and Human Care New Zealand.
We operate without administrative costs as our time and contributions are volunteered, so support goes directly to the work on the ground.
Our purpose is to respond to the social, economic and environmental challenges faced by vulnerable communities in Fiji – with practical, sustainable support that helps people get back on their feet.
We step in when there’s an immediate need – emergencies, poverty, illness but we’re also thinking longer term: supporting education and skills, working alongside communities rather than just for them and being careful with resources. We partner with others when it makes sense to.
So far we’ve helped families with groceries, supported back-to-school needs and distributed early childhood learning books sourced from Australia. Our main ongoing work is getting adult diapers directly to community members around the country – a basic need that often goes unmet.
Human Care Fiji grew out of friendship, a shared history and a simple idea: if we can help, we should.
Every contribution - time, skills or funds goes straight to the work and the people it’s meant to serve.
