Earlier this year Cabinet approved a comprehensive review of the State Lands Act 1945 and the Land Use Act 2010. This important initiative is aimed at modernising Fijiβs land administration framework, strengthening transparency, improving efficiency, and ensuring that land management processes better serve the needs of all Fijians.
A collaborative effort between the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources and the Fiji Law Reform Commission under the Office of the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, the review has been deemed necessary to address several longstanding challenges, including outdated provisions within the existing legislation, the need for clearer governance structures, and the demand for more sustainable, equitable and responsive land-use systems. Ensuring that these Acts meet todayβs socio-economic realities is essential for supporting national development, investment, community well-being, and long-term land security.
As part of this process, the Government will undertake nationwide consultations to gather feedback and recommendations from those most affected and those with valuable insight into land matters.
The first consultation will begin tomorrow, in the Central Division:
π Venue: UN Markets, Nausori
π Time: 10:00am
π
Date: Thursday 27 November 2025
This will be followed by a session at the Serua Provincial Office in Navua on Friday 28 November at 10am.
Following the Central Division consultation, the team will make its rounds to the Western, Northern, and Eastern Divisions in the coming weeks, with schedules to be publicly announced.
The Ministry invites state land lessees, landowners, industry stakeholders, community leaders and all interested members of the public to participate. Their views and experiences will be critical in shaping reforms that are fair, balanced, and reflective of national needs.
These consultations underscore Governmentβs commitment to inclusive policy development, ensuring that the voices of all stakeholders contribute to building a stronger and more effective land-management framework for Fijiβs future.
