🌺 Throwback: Yavu Hospitality & Think Pacific Experience

“Yavu villagers opened not only their homes, but also their hearts.” ❤️🇫🇯

Former Mata ni Tikina shared how the people of Yavu welcomed the Think Pacific team as part of the family during their 2-month stay in the village while working together to build the community hall.

🤝 Community Collaboration
It was more than just a project — it became a true cultural exchange where both sides learned from each other every single day.

🍛 Sharing Food & Culture
From sharing traditional Fijian food, village entertainment, and singing 🎶, to teaching culture, language, and customs, strong friendships and unforgettable memories were created.

🎶 Learning & Entertainment
The villagers showed the true meaning of Fijian hospitality, unity, and community spirit through daily interaction, laughter, and shared experiences.

🏡 Becoming One Family
The Think Pacific volunteers were not treated as visitors, but as part of the Yavu family.

đź’™ Legacy of Unity
This partnership reflects what can happen when people from different parts of the world come together with respect, kindness, and a shared purpose. Vinaka vakalevu to everyone involved for making this experience meaningful and inspiring for future generations. 🌺

Two young men from Yavu are among the recipients of the Government’s Seafarers Entrepreneurial Assistance Programme support.

Congratulations to Lepani Koroinamoce and Netani Naserukula on receiving outboard engine assistance. This support will directly help their families, strengthen safer transport for the people of Yavu and the wider Batiki community, and create more economic opportunities through improved access to fishing, travel, and daily livelihoods.

A proud moment for Yavu — progress that will have a lasting impact on families and the whole community.

Lotu ni Koro o Yavu e Vanua ni Cakacaka

On 18/04/26, the people of Yavu Village living in urban areas came together in unity at Yarawa Methodist Church for a powerful and meaningful church service.

It was more than just a gathering , it was a moment of restoration with God and a renewal of our communal bonds as the people of Yavu. In the midst of busy urban lives and daily commitments, we paused to welcome one another, reflect, and reconnect.

The day created space for remembrance, restoration, and open discussion about our responsibilities to the Vanua, Government, and Church — while also emphasizing the importance of prioritizing family time, especially as we face growing challenges in urban settings.

This gathering reminds us that it is time for us, as a village and Tikina in urban areas, to come together again — to restore the values and cultural foundations that once united, protected, and guided us. If we do not take these steps, many of our youths risk being neglected, disconnected, and led into situations that could have been prevented.

Vinaka vakalevu to all members of the Yavu community in Suva who attended and supported this service. The more we gather, the stronger our protection, resilience, and commitment to preserving our culture, values, and identity for future generations.

The Batiki District School Quarters were officially opened through the traditional Vakasobuduru, marking a significant and respectful commencement of this important development.

Led by a spiritual reflection from the Turaga Nai Talatala Tabacakacaka o Batiki, the ceremony underscored the importance of faith, unity, and cultural values in laying the foundation of the quarters. In a symbolic gesture, a spade of cement mixed with rock and sand was placed into the first pillar—physically anchoring the structure to the land, while also acknowledging the deep connection to tradition, customs, and the vanua.

This moment represents not only the beginning of construction, but a collective commitment by the people of Batiki towards progress through cooperation and shared purpose. The act of contributing to the foundation reflects the spirit of solesolevaki—working together for the common good.

It marks a new chapter for Batiki, grounded in unity, guided by faith, and driven by a shared vision for a better future. Vinaka vakalevu to all stakeholders (FIJI Water Foundation) and Batiki community for their continued support and contribution.

Through the true spirit of solesolevaki, the building materials for the new teachers’ quarters have been successfully unloaded. 💪🏽

Despite the absence of a jetty, the community came together with resilience, determination, and unity to ensure the delivery was completed. A powerful reminder that with collective effort, no challenge is too great.
