Statement of Condemnation
13 April 2025
The Coordination of Zaghawa Diaspora Associations strongly condemns the heinous massacres and acts of genocide being committed by the Janjaweed militia (Rapid Support Forces – RSF) against our unarmed civilian people in Zamzam and Abu Shouk camps, and the city of El Fasher in the Darfur region.
Over the past three days, the RSF militia has continued to carry out horrific attacks on innocent civilians in the displacement camps of Zamzam, Abu Shouk, and El Fasher, using all types of weaponry, including heavy artillery shelling, drone strikes, and ground assaults. According to the Resistance Committees of North Darfur, these crimes have resulted in more than 320 civilians killed or injured.
In light of this catastrophic situation, we call on the international and regional community, the Sudanese government, and all humanitarian and human rights organizations to urgently and immediately intervene to protect civilians and stop the bloodshed.
The continued silence and inaction of the international community in the face of these atrocities is a disgrace to humanity. It is no longer acceptable to issue mere statements of condemnation while massacres are being committed daily against innocent people.
We hold the Sudanese government in Port Sudan fully responsible for its failure to protect its citizens. These displaced people are Sudanese citizens, and their protection is a constitutional and moral duty that the state must not shirk.
We, the Coordination of Zaghawa Diaspora Associations, affirm the following:
1. We hold the RSF militia, led by the criminal Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), fully responsible for these massacres. We call on the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to open an immediate investigation into these and other atrocities committed in Darfur, and to bring the leaders of this militia to international justice.
2. We urge the international and regional community especially the United Nations, the UN Security Council, the European Union, the African Union, IGAD, and the Arab League to take swift action to impose international protection for civilians in El Fasher and the affected areas, and to activate all legal mechanisms under Chapter VII of the UN Charter to stop this bloodbath.
3. We call on humanitarian and relief organizations to intensify their efforts in delivering urgent medical and humanitarian aid and to ensure that assistance reaches victims without obstruction.
4. We fully support the national calls issued by the people of Darfur and the Sudanese public to lift the siege on El Fasher and Umm Kadada. We consider these calls to be appeals for dignity and a national duty to save the remaining residents of the city and the displacement camps.
5. We affirm the unity and solidarity of the Zaghawa people in the diaspora with our resilient people on the ground. We stand together in the face of this brutal aggression. We will not forget our martyrs, and we will never give up our right to a dignified life on our land.
Finally, we appeal to all people of conscience around the world from human rights and humanitarian organizations to governments, media institutions, and civil societies to stand with us and apply all possible pressure to stop the genocide in Darfur and protect innocent civilians.
May mercy and forgiveness be granted to all the victims of this genocide,
A speedy recovery to the wounded,
And a safe return to the missing.
