The last event before the summer break at Helsinki featured Florence Macedo () and drew a full house.
Born in Brazil and having lived in Canada before moving to Finland, Florence didn’t come from a family of entrepreneurs, but she always had their full support in whatever she wanted to create.

Her entrepreneurial journey began when she moved to Helsinki and simply couldn’t find the things she was looking for, so she decided to create them herself. No colourful clothes to brighten her days in Finland? She made them. No cute PJs to lounge around in during the pandemic? She made those too. Always staying close to her roots, she worked with traditional Brazilian embroidery to create truly special garments.

Then, when she wished there were a cute neighbourhood café, she created Café Clé. And when she sold it and finally had some time to breathe, she decided to create something new: a boutique catering business. Because that’s just her nature—her way of expressing herself and living: creating beautiful things that bring joy to people.

Starting something new is never easy, but for creative people, not creating can be even harder. The ideas just keep popping into your head, whether you’re trying to sleep or focus on something else. So yes, life is challenging either way, and it’s better to face those challenges while pursuing something you’ve chosen to take on.

Seven years ago, Florence would never have believed she’d end up being featured in a Finnish magazine. Her dreams didn’t just come true—they were exceeded.

Everyone left feeling inspired to start building what’s been living in their heads and to create a life that’s truly worth fighting for. 🌟

The breakfast, provided by our partner , followed Florence’s journey—from Brazilian açaí to Canadian bagels to Finnish porridge.

Thanks to all our partners Arkkitehtuuri- ja designmuseo, Lounasleidi, Théhuone, Staroffset, Industrial Strength Coffee and Stadin AO for making mornings like this possible.

efore CreativeMornings/Helsinki summer break, we are delighted to have Florence Macedo as our May speaker.
Brazil-born, Helsinki-based, and shaped by life across several countries, Florence works at the intersection of food, fashion, and community. The creative polymath moved to Finland eight years ago from Montreal with a strong desire to create meaningful experiences and bring beautiful ideas to life.

Since then, she has contributed to Helsinki’s increasingly diverse creative scene through her lifestyle brand, café, and boutique catering company – projects rooted in thoughtful design, hospitality, and human connection. Alongside her personal ventures, Florence is also a Community Manager at BBO Creatives, where she continues building bridges between people, brands, and culture.

Her journey has been shaped by resilience, reinvention, and curiosity, but also by the belief that creativity can create belonging. Along the way, Florence has found power in projects that bring people together and make a place feel like home, much like Helsinki has come to feel for her.

Last Friday CreativeMornings’ speaker Anouk Sukanya Hummel shared her personal life story with our audience. Her journey is a profound exploration of identity and rebirth, moving from the pressure of external expectations to the clarity of the inherent self.

Born in Bangkok and raised by Dutch parents across Africa and West Asia, Anouk spent years working tirelessly to please others and adapt to society while navigating the complexities of being an international adoptee. This relentless pursuit of a “perfect” corporate life in advertising eventually led to a severe burnout—a pivotal “flame out” that forced her to strip away the layers of people-pleasing and societal conditioning.

By leaving the corporate world behind to become a yoga teacher, mentor, and coach, Anouk embarked on a spiritual reclamation of the person she was born to be. She encouraged her audience to listen to their bodies and embrace the creative, authentic essence that endures after life’s structural fires have burned away.

“Acknowledge the inherent you.” Anouk suggested people to work on reconnecting with their inherent identity - “The who I am that I was born into.”

A huge thank you to our local partners: , .helsinki , , , and AO for making mornings like this possible.

Anouk Sukanya is a multi-passionate, multi-layered human being. Born in Bangkok, Thailand. Raised in several countries in Africa and West Asia and in The Netherlands. Our theme for April is EMBER. It was chosen by our Poulsbo chapter in Washington and illustrated by Sarah Gordon.

The literal meaning of ember is a small piece of burning or glowing coal or wood in a dying fire. But as a metaphor, it means so much more.

Our Poulsbo chapter had this to say about the significance of this month’s theme:

“Embers represent the quiet, enduring remnants of fire—what remains after the intensity fades. They carry a smoldering potential, a subtle strength that holds heat long after the flames have gone. As a quieter community outside the city, we may not always burn the brightest, but we never burn out. Our spark lives in reflection, resilience, and the space we have to pause, think, and grow.

In those calm moments, we find what many others miss: the steady glow of ideas, relationships, and dreams that don’t need noise to thrive. Embers remind us that even after challenges or change, something powerful remains—ready to reignite when needed. We hold that same quiet fire within ourselves, and in community with each other, we kindle more.

Together, we tend the quiet fire—fueling one another through presence, care, and shared warmth.”

What ember is quietly glowing inside you? And what new fire will it ignite in your life?
