Kyiv in August is hot and full of dust. The morning we filmed this, the air still had last night in it - the smell that means something took a missile and burned a few districts over. Ordinary Thursday. The city went to work.

So did we. In the video: the first pickup of our convoy of four. High mileage, long road behind it, the kind of vehicle that has already earned its retirement somewhere in Europe. It isn't retiring. It goes straight to the service station, and after that, the conversion begins. You can only convert a truck you trust into an ambulance. So first we make it sound. Then we make it useful.

A car that has to work in October has to start being fixed in August. Three more cars are to come. This one has a name already, and a bit later, we’ll let you know what it is 👀 Three more trucks are waiting for their turn, still looking for their names. The naming rights are open to our donors: donate the most toward a vehicle and you choose a name that goes on the door before the ambulance heads east.

A few words on resurrection. A tired pickup arrives in Ukraine - a lot of road behind it, but mechanically sound. Some weeks later the same vehicle comes out better than new, and carries the wounded to safety. We talked to the man behind the magic, Sasha.

We convert ordinary pickup trucks into field-capable ambulances. In a word: give the cars a new life, as the Phoenix does. On this video, Sasha walks us through the process and explains why every bolt matters.

Imagine a car failing in field conditions, with enemy drones buzzing overhead. You can either send another car, risking two crews, or try your luck walking to safety. That’s the situation we want to avoid: while we can’t promise the crews safety, we do promise them a car that holds.

We can’t prevent russia from doing evil. But we can make sure that the next time it happens, Ukrainian rescuers have what they need to reach the wounded and bring them home.

So we buy rugged off-road pickups and rebuild them with our skillful Ukrainian partners. Camouflage on the outside. A full ambulance on the inside.

Outside: a modular steel-and-mesh cage against FPV drones, optional partial armour, camouflage paint. If a drone finds the vehicle anyway, the cage takes the hit instead of the crew.

Inside: a heated patient compartment — hypothermia is one of the most serious complications of a traumatic injury, so warmth is medicine. Stretcher, organized medical storage, bright lighting, rear ramp for fast casualty loading. Ready to work day or night.

Olemme toimittaneet matkailuvaunun Ukrainan asevoimien erikoisjoukkojen lääkintähenkilöstölle, jota Feeniksin Kilta on tukenut jo pitkään. He toimivat rintaman vaarallisimmilla alueilla, ja nyt heillä on liikkuva koti.

Miksi matkailuvaunu, miksei asua talossa?

Koska Venäjän ”ansiosta” taloja ei usein ole enää jäljellä siellä, missä nämä oikean elämän supersankarit työskentelevät.

Matkailuvaunuun mahtuu mukavasti 5–6 henkilöä, ja siinä on keittiö, suihku, WC, lämmitys, valaistus sekä säilytystilaa.

Me teemme joka päivä voitavamme ukrainalaisten henkien säästämiseksi. Suurin osa tästä työstä on näkymätöntä somessa: autojen etsimistä, kuljettajien kanssa ajoaikatauluista sopimista, byrokratian hoitamista… Viimeisin hankkimamme auto on perillä Donetskin alueella, ilmatorjuntajoukkojen käytössä.

Videolla näkemänne ihmiset ovat ensimmäinen puolustuslinja venäläisten harjoittamaa terroria vastaan - he suojelevat Ukrainan taivasta.
