Exciting News!
On November 5 and 6, we marked a significant milestone with the launch of PEPFAR’s CLM project, set to be implemented nationally across all regions and two city administrations in Ethiopia. As the lead organization, we are proud to coordinate efforts among 13 implementing organizations and PLHIV associations.
During the launch event, we were honored to hear keynote speeches and welcoming remarks from distinguished guests, including Ato Fikadu Yadeta, HIV and Hepatitis Program Lead at the Ministry of Health, Ato Fasikaw Mola, Deputy Director of ACSO, and Tseday Alemseged, PEPFAR Ethiopia Country Coordinator.
The project represents a major step forward for our organization as we expand our leadership in national interventions. We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity provided by the PEPFAR Country Office.
We believe that the CLM project will significantly contribute to the country's HIV health initiatives, and we are committed to achieving impactful results alongside our implementing partners.
Together, we are making strides in the fight against HIV in Ethiopia!

🌟 Exciting News! 🌟

We’re thrilled to announce the signing of a one-year project agreement between Tamra for Social Development Organization and PEPFAR Ethiopia Country Office! This marks a significant milestone in our commitment to creating lasting change in our communities.

On September 19, 2024, our Executive Director, Biruk Yergalem, and U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ervin J. Massinga, signed the agreement at the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, with senior officials like Ms. Tseday Alemseged, PEPFAR Ethiopia Country Coordinator, present.

Since 2021, our partnership has focused on enhancing ART adherence through community-led initiatives in Shashemene, Negele Arsi, and Addis Ketema. Now, as we lead the CLM Project FY 2025, we’re excited to coordinate efforts across 12 regions and 2 city administrations.

The TSD Youth Group at the Shashemene Regional Office is actively engaged in the Green Legacy initiative, where they are planting seedlings to contribute to environmental sustainability. TSD volunteers had been planting seedlings since 2002.

🌍 In March 2024, Ethiopia adopted the National Plastic Waste Management Strategy and Roadmap (2024-2034), a major step towards addressing plastic waste.

With €25 million in plastics technology imports in 2021, Ethiopia is one of East Africa's largest importers, generating 380,000 tons of plastic waste annually, but only 6% is recycled.

🌱 Recognizing the policy gap, NCA Ethiopia, in partnership with PETCO and the Ethiopian Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), initiated discussions in 2022 for the development of the national policy.

With support from Norway's Kavlifondet, NCA supported the designing of the ten-year National Plastic Strategy and Roadmap.

This initiative also introduced two key policy tools: Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and regulations for Food-Grade Recycled PET (rPET) packaging, which are under development.

As we prepare to commemorate International Youth Month, let's take a journey through the evolving themes of International Youth Day over the past 25 years.

The very first International Youth Day, celebrated on August 12, 1999, had the theme "Youth: Participation, Development and Peace. In the subsequent years, the themes have addressed a diverse range of youth-centric issues and priorities.

We are excited to announce our partnership agreement signing with USAID/DEXIS through ELEYHDO for the re-innovation of library, toilets, and a safety tanker at our Youth Centre in Shashemene. This initiative aims to strengthen the center as a hub for young people, promoting peace and social cohesion. We look forward to fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders like USAID/DEXIS and Egna Le Egna Youth Health and Development Organization. Key figures at the signing included the TSD Regional Coordinator, ELEYHDO Executive Director, and USAID representatives. Since 2005, TSD’s Youth Centre has been a cornerstone for young people in the city.
