"Celebrating the impact of community-led change"

As our EHF-funded project ends, AIDA proud to share two inspiring success stories from Bidu and Afdera woreda of Afar region.

Through community awareness campaigns and local engagement, women have gained greater knowledge of GBV prevention, available support services, family responsibility, and community participation. More importantly, many have become advocate for the positive change, encouraging others to seek support, share information, and strengthen their communities.

The stories of Amina and Asiya illustrate how access to information and community engagement can empower individuals and bring about lasting change.

We sincerely thank the EHF, ASDEPO, local authorities, community, clan, and religious leaders, as well as all community members, for their partnership and commitment throughout the project. Together, we have strengthened community protection, promoting dignity, safety, and hope for women and girls.

A generational shift in female ge***al mutilation (FGM) - and a reminder of how far there is left to go.
The newly released Ethiopia Demographic and Health Survey (EDHS 2024–25) shows real, measurable change: 58% of women aged 15–49 in have undergone FGM, compared with just 12% among girls aged 0–14 today. This is what generational change looks like, proof that deeply rooted social norms can shift within a lifetime.
But the picture is far from uniform. Prevalence ranges from just 17% in Gambella to 94% in Somali region, a reminder that progress in some communities doesn't mean the work is done everywhere. Ending FGM means reaching every region, every community and everywhere.

The median age at first marriage for women has risen from 16.0 years in 2000 to 18.1 years today,
A meaningful generational shift, and evidence that sustained investment in girls' education and rights is working.
But the gains aren't yet universal: 32% of women aged 20–24 were still married before the age of 18. Ending child marriage means keeping girls in school, connected to health services, and in control of their own futures, for every girl, not just some.
