📢 The Ethiopian Red Cross Society Oromia Regional Office West Wollega Zonal Branch has successfully conducted its General Assembly and Board Election program.
The event was held with the participation of branch members, government stakeholders, partners, volunteers, and invited guests in a productive and collaborative atmosphere. During the assembly, discussions were made on the branch’s achievements, challenges, and future strategic directions to further strengthen humanitarian services in the zone.
The General Assembly also successfully elected the new Board members who will provide leadership and guidance in advancing the humanitarian mission of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society.
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society West Wollega Zonal Branch remains committed to serving vulnerable communities through emergency response, health and care services, disaster risk reduction, and community resilience initiatives.

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society Oromia Regional Office warmly celebrated the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, annually commemorated on May 8 in honor of the remarkable humanitarian legacy of Henry Dunant, the founder of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
The day was celebrated across all zonal branches through various events and humanitarian activities that highlighted the invaluable contributions of our dedicated staff and volunteers in disaster preparedness, emergency response, health promotion, humanitarian diplomacy, and community resilience building.
This special occasion serves as a reminder of the Movement’s enduring commitment to humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality. We proudly recognize the tireless efforts and compassion of our volunteers and staff who continue to stand with vulnerable communities during times of crisis and need.

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society Oromia Regional Office West Shoa Zone Branch, held its General Assembly and Board Election Meeting in Ambo town in the presence of the Head of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society Oromia Regional Office, Mr. Kamal Abdalla, along with various stakeholders and participants.
During the meeting, a four-year performance report was presented. Participants testified that the humanitarian services and support provided by the Ethiopian Red Cross Society during both natural and man-made disasters have been a source of hope for the community. They also called upon the public to continue standing alongside and supporting the Society.
It was further highlighted that the Ethiopian Red Cross Society is ensuring community benefit through its focus on humanitarian work and is playing a significant role in relief assistance and development activities.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the General Assembly successfully elected a new seven-member Board Committee and ended successfully.

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), Oromia Regional Office, Shaggar City Branch, is successfully conducting its General Assembly and Board Election.
During the General Assembly, a comprehensive performance report covering the past four years was presented. The report highlighted numerous impactful humanitarian activities that have significantly benefited the community.
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society continues to play a leading role at the national level in strengthening humanitarian capacity and delivering on its mission with dedication, credibility, and impact. In alignment with this mission, the Shaggar City Branch has been actively implementing a wide range of humanitarian interventions.
These include:
• Construction of community-based projects such as safe drinking water systems, model health posts, and sanitation facilities
• Educational support programs
• Provision of quality training and advisory services
• Distribution of essential non-food items, food, and clothing support
• Improving living conditions through sustainable humanitarian assistance
Speaking at the event, Ms. Workinesh Miidhaksaa, Head of the Safety Net Office of Shaggar City and Board Member of the ERCS Shaggar Branch, emphasized that ERCS is a key humanitarian partner working alongside the government to respond to both natural and man-made disasters. She noted that the Society continues to deliver vital humanitarian assistance through contributions collected from its members.
On his part, Mr. Kemal Abdella, Head of ERCS Oromia Regional Office, highlighted that the Ethiopian Red Cross Society is part of the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, established by a charter ratified by the House of People’s Representatives. He emphasized the Society’s crucial role in providing timely and organized responses to vulnerable communities affected by emergencies, thereby reducing human suffering. He also called for strengthened collaboration and support to further enhance the Society’s humanitarian efforts.
Furthermore, Mr. Alamayyo Mammo, Head of the Shaggar City Branch, stated that the branch is actively addressing gaps in health services and socio-economic challenges in the city through expanded humanitarian programs, infrastructure development, and community resilience-building initiatives.
He also noted that the Society is working to strengthen its humanitarian response capacity by leveraging skilled professionals, modern technologies, digital innovations, and strategic support systems. Efforts are also underway to expand membership and ensure sustainable income generation to support long-term program success.

ERCS Oromia Regional Office Successfully Concludes EC2R Project Exit Strategy Workshop
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society Oromia Regional Office has successfully conducted the EC2R Project Three-Year Exit Strategy Workshop, marking a significant milestone in the completion of a transformative humanitarian initiative.
The workshop was held in the presence of ERCS Health and WASH Director Mr. Gashaw Dagne, Oromia Regional Office Head Mr. Kemal Abdella, and EC2R Project Manager Mrs. Mekdes Megisteab, alongside valued government stakeholders, community representatives, and dedicated project staff.
The purpose Purpose of the Workshop to:
• Ensure the sustainability of achievements realized over the past three years
• Facilitate the official handover of health and WASH infrastructures and services
• Strengthen ownership among local stakeholders for continued impact
The EC2R Project has been successfully implemented across multiple woredas:
• East Shoa Zone: Adama, Adami Tulu Jido Kombolcha, Ada’a, and Lume
• East Borana Zone: Mada Walabu, West Walabu, and Liban
• West Arsi Zone: Dodola, Shashamane, Siraro, and Gadab Hasasa
• Guji: Agawayu
Over its three phases of implementation, the EC2R Project has delivered remarkable outcomeslike Construction and rehabilitation of health facilities have significantly enhanced service delivery, benefiting thousands of community members.
Installation of clean water systems, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion activities have improved community health and reduced waterborne diseases.
Through awareness campaigns, capacity-building, and community engagement, local populations are now better equipped to respond to health and environmental challenges.
Regarding Capacity Building of Local Stakeholders Training and technical support have empowered local government institutions and communities to manage and sustain project outcomes effectively.
The successful completion of this workshop signifies not an end, but a transition towards local ownership and sustainability. The official handover ensures that the infrastructures and services established under the EC2R Project will continue to serve communities for years to come.
