When we were fighting the Arabs, their bullets didn’t differentiate between Nuer, Shilluk, or Dinka. They saw us as one people, united by the spirit of South Sudanese identity within us. They tortured and killed us all without any exception.
When South Sudanese were massacred in Kodok and Juba, the Arabs didn’t massacre them based on their tribes, but because they were South Sudanese accused of supporting the SPLA.
But after we achieved what we fought for as South Sudanese, something started itching, and we began pointing fingers at one another. Today, our bullets are differentiating who is who among ourselves.
That spirit died with our core of unity Dr. John Garang De Mabior.
