Making A Difference In Communities! The first Rotary Club formed by Rotractors who formed the first Rotaract Club in Ethiopia. Chartered in February 2008.

The Rotary Club of Addis Ababa Central Mella gives back to the community through a range of undertakings pertaining to water well projects, education on environmental issues, building/strengthening educational institutions and awareness raising on HIV/AIDS care and prevention.

As part of our Literature for Peace Program, implemented with our wonderful Rotary Ethiopia Peace Center and valued partners, HoHe Chapter hosted an inspiring book discussion exploring the life, works, literary contributions and artistic legacy of Kegnegeta Yoftahe Nigussie.

Through the book’s pages, we journeyed into history and reflected on Yoftahe Nigussie’s enduring artistic legacy through today’s perspective.

እንኳን ለጳጉሜ አደረሳችሁ! 🌼

ጳጉሜ — the thirteenth month. Five days that belong to no other calendar on earth.

Every other calendar closes its year and moves on. Ethiopia stops for five days first. Five days to settle what was left unfinished. To repair what was left broken. To go to the neighbour you fell out with in Hamle and put it right before Meskerem.

Rotarians know that pause by another name. Before we speak, before we act, we ask ourselves four questions — is it true, is it fair to everyone, will it build goodwill, will it benefit all concerned. Pagume asks the same four questions of a whole year at once.

So take the five days. Look back honestly at the year: the peace dialogues, the clinics, the classrooms, the trees, the clean water. Ask what was true. Ask who it served. Then close the ledger and open a new one.

🌿🕊️ HISTORY WAS MADE BY THE KEBENA RIVER! 🕊️🌿

We proudly celebrated the first-ever Jiraf for Peace Tournament, held along the beautiful Kebena River behind the Bella Community—a powerful gathering where Ethiopian heritage found a new voice for peace!

The traditional Jiraf, deeply connected to Buhe, Hoya Hoye and Ethiopia’s shepherd culture, was transformed from a symbol of strength into a resounding call for unity. Every crack carried one message:

📣 WE SHOUT FOR PEACE!
🇪🇹 MAY PEACE PREVAIL IN ETHIOPIA!

The tournament brought together youth, elders, artists, musicians and community members through Jiraf performances, traditional rhythms, storytelling, peace dialogue, cultural celebration and the sharing of Mulmul bread.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to Sewegna Production, Timret Lehiwot Ethiopia, Life & Peace Institute, Rotary Ethiopia Peace Center, Rotary Club of Addis Ababa Central Mella, Rotary Satellite Club of Selam, Rotaract Ethiopia Peace Campaign, Rotaract Club of Debbo, Rotary Fellowship of Urban Gardening, Mesob Music Center, the Bella Community and everyone who made this historic celebration possible.

From the banks of Kebena River, our culture spoke—and its message was SELAM!

📚🕊️ YET ANOTHER EPIC BOOK REVIEWED — WHERE LITERATURE MEETS PEACE!

As part of our continuing Peace & Literature Series, another powerful book has entered the circle of dialogue:

📖 ሆሄ ምዕራፍ | “ሃገረ ትግራይ”

በሙሉጌታ አረጋዊ

Books do more than tell stories.
They open windows into history, identity, memory and perspectives—helping us understand yesterday, question today, and imagine a more peaceful tomorrow.

Through this edition of ሆሄ ምዕራፍ, participants explored “ሃገረ ትግራይ”—its historical and political narratives, the author’s perspectives, and the difficult but important questions the book invites readers to examine.

At the heart of our Peace & Literature Series is a simple conviction:

We do not have to agree on every page to sit around the same table.

Literature can create a neutral space where different perspectives are heard with curiosity and respect, where disagreement becomes dialogue, and where dialogue can become understanding.

👏 Our appreciation to author Mulugeta Aregawi, whose body of work includes “ዲቪ ሎተሪ,” “አብራክ,” and “ሕግ ሲዳኝ,” as well as the television series “በሕግ አምላክ.”

And congratulations to everyone behind ሆሄ ምዕራፍ for keeping literature alive as a space for thoughtful conversation.
