Irregular migration and human trafficking continue to be major protection concerns in Ethiopia. Many individuals, especially youth and women, are driven by unemployment, poverty, and conflict to seek opportunities through unsafe migration routes.
Unfortunately, deceptive recruiters and criminal networks often exploit this vulnerability, leading to forced labor, sexual exploitation, and other forms of abuse.
Addressing this issue requires strong prevention, awareness raising on safe migration, improved livelihood opportunities, and survivor-centered protection services.
Organizations such as the Ethiopian Network of Women’s Shelters (ENWS), together with partners, are working to strengthen coordination, provide support services, and promote safer migration pathways.
Protecting dignity and rights of people on the move requires collective action
