Estifanos is a joyful 5-year-old boy who loves playing football, riding his bicycle, and spending time with his family.

Estifanos was born with a surgical condition that required pediatric surgery. His family faced many challenges, and they had to leave their home and business in Jinka and move to a temporary camp.

Despite these challenges, Estifanos’s family continued searching for care. After coming to Addis Ababa, they first visited a private hospital, but they could not afford the cost of the treatment and surgery he needed. Later, they visited a government hospital, where Estifanos was assessed and referred to BethanyKids.

Through BethanyKids free pediatric surgical care, Estifanos finally received the surgery he needed. Today, his family is filled with gratitude and hope.
His father shared:

“At first, we were afraid of the surgery, but now our fear has completely decreased, and we are very happy. Thank you so much, BethanyKids. May God protect you all and continue to bless and grow this organization.”

Every child deserves a chance to heal, grow, and hope.

A Journey of Hope: Isach’s Story
Isach is a joyful 9-month-old baby from Gambela, about 750 km from Addis Ababa. His mother first noticed that something was wrong while bathing him. After visiting their nearest hospital, the family was referred to Addis Ababa for specialized treatment.

The family learned about BethanyKids through CHEDA, a partner organization that works together with BethanyKids to help children in need of access for pediatric surgery. Isach’s parents could not afford the cost of the surgery, so they came to BethanyKids seeking help. BethanyKids provided free pediatric surgery, along with medical assessment, compassionate care, and support throughout Isach’s treatment journey.

After his surgery, Isach’s mother shared:
“We would like to thank everyone who made it possible for our son to receive this opportunity for surgery. We are very grateful for the kindness and support we have received.”

Through the support of collaborative partners like CHEDA and compassionate donors, BethanyKids helps children whose families cannot afford specialized treatment by giving access for life-changing surgery and by giving families hope for a healthier future.

Bringing Care Beyond the Hospital
At BethanyKids, our commitment to every child continues even after surgery. Through our Home Visit Program, our team visits children and their families to assess the child's health status, identify any concerns or challenges, offer psychosocial support, and counsel and guide caregivers throughout the child's recovery journey.
These home visits strengthen families, promote children's well-being, and ensure they receive compassionate care in the comfort of their homes.
Because healing doesn't end at the hospital—it continues at home. 💙

From Hope to Healing: Filicha's Journey

Filicha is a joyful 2-year-old boy from the Arsi Zone of Oromia. Born with an inguinal hernia, he waited nearly a year for the surgery he urgently needed, while his family faced financial hardship and uncertainty.

After learning about BethanyKids, Filicha was assessed by our medical team and received free, life-changing pediatric surgery. Since his family had no relatives or place to stay in Addis Ababa, BethanyKids also welcomed them into Bethanykids Accommodation & Rehabilitation Center, where they received safe accommodation, nutritious meals, and compassionate care throughout his recovery.

After the surgery, Filicha's mother shared:
"Thank you so much for everything. My child is now healthy, and we are deeply grateful for the wonderful care and support. May God bless everyone for your kindness and compassion."
Because of compassionate supporters, children like Filicha receive life-changing surgery, safe accommodation, and hope for a brighter future.

Collaboration makes healing possible
A heartfelt thank you to Holland Dairy for generously donating 400 cups of yogurt to the children and caregivers staying at the Bethany Kids Accommodation & Rehabilitation Center.

This generous gift provides nutritious support and brings comfort to families as they care for their children during recovery from life-changing pediatric surgeries.

Keol’s Journey from Fear to Hope
Keol is a cheerful 7-month-old baby boy who loves smiling, playing, and being around people. His father sells vegetables to support the family, while his mother is a housewife. With limited income, the family struggled to afford the cost of Keol’s surgery.

At one month old, Keol was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia. His parents were worried and afraid about his condition. After being placed on a surgery waiting list, they waited for three months, uncertain about when their baby would receive the care he needed and unable to afford private treatment.

Through a referral, Keol came to BethanyKids, where he received free pediatric surgical care. The medical team examined him, explained his condition, and provided the surgery he needed.

After the surgery, Keol’s mother shared:
"Keol is now in good condition and improving well. During the surgery, I was very afraid, but God protected my child. I thank God and BethanyKids for the care and support they gave us."

Through free pediatric surgical care, BethanyKids continues to bring hope to children and families facing financial barriers, giving them a chance for a healthier future.

As a medical doctor with a heart for serving children and vulnerable communities, Dr. Lidiya believes that fundraising is about far more than raising money—it is about creating opportunities for children to receive the life-changing pediatric surgical care they deserve.

We were honored to welcome our valued partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), to BethanyKids for a partnership audit and collaborative engagement.

During the visit, the AMH SAFE (Surgical Access for Everyone) representative, Beatrice Njoroge, met with the BethanyKids team to discuss our ongoing partnership and shared commitment to serving children with surgical needs. She also toured our Rehabilitation and Accommodation Center, visited the hospital wards to observe the care provided to children, and joined home visits to gain a deeper understanding of families’ living situations and the impact of our support beyond the hospital.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen our partnership, exchange insights, explore areas for program improvement, and reaffirm our shared commitment to improving the lives of children and their caregivers.
