What an amazing closing for ! ๐ŸŽ‰

We kicked things off with an insightful discussion between representatives from Pan African Climate Justice Alliance and United Nations Development Programme - UNDP Africa about climate finance, exploring how we can connect with various supporters and partners on the ground.

We were also thrilled to witness the adoption of our declaration by talented youth delegates from across Africa! ๐ŸŒ

The inspiring words from H.E. USG Claver Gatete from United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the Africa Climate Summit 1 president, and Dr. Richard Muyungi the African Group of Negotiators (AGN) Chair truly resonated with everyone and were highlights of the event.

To top it all off, we celebrated the Nairobi Summer School on Climate Justice participants with a certificate ceremony that brought so much joy to the crowd! ๐ŸŽ“โœจ

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this event possible. Letโ€™s keep the momentum going and continue to champion our declaration in local, regional, and global engagements! ๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŒฑ

We also create spaces for women to engage in government policies, while encouraging youth to prepare themselves for opportunities from different agencies.โ€ โ€” Gloria Kaberia, Regional Adolescent and Youth Lead, UNICEF

At , ambassadors from the UK, Denmark, and Sweden joined African youth in a powerful dialogue on climate change, health, finance, and youth leadership.

They stressed that climate change is not optionalโ€”we are all in the same boat. The ambassadors reaffirmed their commitment to:
โœ… Support youth participation in climate action
โœ… Strengthen the link between climate & health in global discussions
โœ… Back Pan-African youth-led climate movements and initiatives

Their message was clear: Africaโ€™s youth are not the leaders of tomorrowโ€”they are the leaders of today.

At the African Youth Climate Assembly (AYCA) 2025 in Addis Ababa, Elizabeth Wathuti delivered a keynote speech that challenged diplomats and leaders to act with urgency, courage, and fairness in the face of the climate crisis.

โ Young people are not only the largest population in the world and across Africa, but we are builders. We are not leaders tomorrow because we are already leading today. Across Africa, young people are restoring rivers and forests, powering schools with clean energy, growing food in dry seasons, creating new jobs from circular economies. We are doing the work. What we need from diplomacy is not applause and kind words, it is access, collaboration, and resources. Thatโ€™s not only goodwill but democracy. โž

She reminded the audience that history will not remember eloquent speeches but whether young innovators in places like Garissa, Kisangani, Gulu, or Beira were able to scale their solutions because diplomacy chose to open doors, move resources, and clear paths.

Her call was simple yet profound: Africaโ€™s youth are ready. With diplomatic muscle and youth leadership working together, urgency can be transformed into delivery.

Keynote Address โ€“ AYCA 2025

We are honored to host Dr. Mithika Mwenda, Lead of the Non-State Actors and Inclusivity Committee and Executive Director of PACJA, as a keynote speaker at the African Youth Climate Assembly (AYCA) 2025.

In his compelling keynote, Dr. Mwenda highlighted the intersection of climate justice, youth leadership, and Africaโ€™s role in global climate action:

"Africa carries a heavy crisis of a debt it did not produce. Climate justice isnโ€™t just about rising temperaturesโ€”itโ€™s about shrinking justice and a generation whose dreams are held hostage by a crisis they didnโ€™t cause. No green transformation has ever happened without young Africans. You are not the leaders of tomorrowโ€”you are the leaders of today. This assembly is the moral compass of Africaโ€™s agenda: a united youth cannot be defeated. Demand a seat at the table, call for climate finance as investment, and rememberโ€”Africa is not a problem to be solved, but a solution to be embraced."

His address calls on African youth to assert their voice, champion climate action, and lead boldly toward a sustainable and equitable future for the continent.

Welcoming Remark โ€“ AYCA 2025

We are honored to have Hon. Yousuf Mohammed, Vice President of the Ethiopian Youth Council, deliver the official welcoming remarks at the African Youth Climate Assembly (AYCA) 2025.

In his opening words, Vice President Yousuf set a warm and inspiring tone for the assembly:

"This is not an ordinary gatheringโ€”it is an assembly that brings together youth from across Africa. The voice of Africa is boldest when it is unapologetic. We meet at a time when climate change is no longer a distant threatโ€”it is here! This assembly is our opportunity to amplify climate solutions. Together, let us write a new chapter for our shared future."

His remarks emphasized the power, creativity, and leadership of Africaโ€™s youth, welcoming all participants to engage fully, collaborate, and take decisive action for a sustainable and resilient future.
