Real change in communities begins with conversations people feel safe enough to have.

In Jigjiga, community leaders, women’s associations, religious leaders, and representatives from local government offices came together for a powerful training focused on promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and preventing Gender-Based Violence (GBV). But beyond the sessions and presentations, this gathering was about something deeper — challenging harmful norms, listening with empathy, and building communities where women and girls can live free from violence and fear.

Community volunteers are often the first trusted voices people turn to. When equipped with the right knowledge, communication skills, and survivor-centered approaches, they become catalysts for lasting change — helping break silence, address stigma, and create pathways to support and protection.

One message echoed throughout the training: change starts with us. By transforming our own attitudes and understanding, we can create safer, healthier, and more inclusive communities for everyone.

We are grateful to all participants, partners, and leaders who continue to champion dignity, equality, and hope within their communities.

What happens when young people are given safe spaces to speak, learn, and lead? Conversations turn into confidence. Awareness turns into action. Communities move closer to health, dignity, and equality.

At the 2026 Walk for Her Health at Meskel Square, EngenderHealth Ethiopia joined advocates, healthcare providers, youth groups, and community organizations to champion women’s health, SRHR, and the prevention of GBV.

Led by our Youth Advisory Council members, our booth became more than an information space — it became a platform for honest dialogue, learning, and connection. Through interactive activities, myth-busting conversations, and demonstrations on menstrual health and contraceptive methods, young people engaged openly on topics too often surrounded by silence and stigma.

Because access to accurate information is power. And when young people are empowered to make informed decisions about their health and futures, entire communities benefit.

Thank you to everyone who walked with us and stood for a future where every woman and young person can access care, information, and support without fear or judgment.

Telehealth is transforming access to healthcare by breaking barriers of distance, time, and availability. It enables people in remote and underserved communities to receive timely health information, consultations, and follow-up care without traveling long distances.

As digital health continues to grow, telehealth is becoming an important tool for building more inclusive, equitable, and resilient health systems. Access to care should not depend on location.

By integrating immediate postpartum family planning counseling into antenatal care visits, providers are giving women the time, space, and information they need to plan their futures with confidence. Combined with strengthened maternal care through the E-MOTIVE approach to managing postpartum hemorrhage, these improvements are helping ensure safer pregnancies, safer deliveries, and healthier families.

At Gelan Health Center, a simple shift is helping women make informed decisions before childbirth.

“We are not just providing services. We are helping women plan their futures.” – Tigist Lemma, Midwife

Driving impact through partnership and presence.

At the Annual GO–CSOs Partnership Forum in Bahir Dar, EngenderHealth Ethiopia teams played a key role in showcasing practical solutions and frontline experience from the RBA and RMNCH+PPFP projects.

Through active engagement in presentations and gallery walks, staff highlighted critical interventions in maternal and newborn health, sexual and reproductive health, and GBV prevention—while demonstrating life-saving tools like the calibrated drape for PPH management. Their direct interaction with stakeholders strengthened understanding, sparked dialogue, and reinforced trust in EngenderHealth’s work across the region.

This is the power of showing up—not just to share, but to influence, connect, and drive better health outcomes.

Access to safe and dignified menstrual health support should never depend on geography.

EngenderHealth Ethiopia, through the REACH Project,—funded by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ethiopia—has provided 10 motorbikes to improve menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) services in Jimma and Bore.

These motorbikes are more than a means of transport. They are a critical link between services and the girls who need them most. By enabling health workers to reach remote and hard-to-reach woredas, they strengthen supportive supervision, improve monitoring, and ensure the timely delivery of essential MHH commodities. They also make it possible to consistently reach communities where transportation barriers have limited access—bringing information, supplies, and support closer to households and schools.

By closing the distance, we are removing barriers—ensuring that every girl can manage her menstruation safely, confidently, and with dignity.

Today, EngenderHealth Ethiopia, through the Integrated RMNCH+PPFP in High Caseload Facilities Project, provided essential medical equipment support to Akaki Health Center, in the presence of the Addis Ababa City Administration Health Bureau, strengthening the facility’s capacity to deliver quality maternal, newborn, and reproductive health services.

For women seeking care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, access to functional delivery and examination equipment is critical to ensuring safe, dignified, and respectful care. The support included key tools that contribute to improved service readiness and infection prevention.

By equipping frontline healthcare providers with the tools they need, EngenderHealth is helping ensure that mothers and newborns receive timely, high‑quality care at high‑caseload facilities where the demand is greatest.

Strengthening Communities to Promote Health and Prevent Violence

EngenderHealth Ethiopia, through the RBA Project, conducted a two-round Community Engagement Training on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response in Addis Ababa this April.

Community volunteers from existing Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response Committees, under the leadership of the Addis Ababa Women and Social Affairs Office, gathered to reflect, learn, and strengthen their skills. Participants represented women’s associations, community and religious leadership, as well as city, sub-city, and woreda Women and Social Affairs offices.

Through open dialogue and practical tools, participants explored how to:

✔️ Challenge harmful beliefs and attitudes
✔️ Promote respectful, inclusive conversations
✔️ Support survivors using survivor-centered approaches
✔️ Strengthen referral and community facilitation skills

With continued institutional support and strong collaboration, these volunteers are now better equipped to turn learning into action.
