• Investing in Stronger and More Resilient Health Systems
Access to quality healthcare depends not only on skilled health professionals but also on the availability of essential medical equipment. Recognizing this, the MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience (MIHR) Project, funded by the United States Government and implemented by JSI Ethiopia in partnership with the Health Development and Anti-Malaria Association (HDAMA), has donated medical equipment worth more than ETB 3.5 million to health facilities under the South Wollo Zone Health center.
The donation includes 52 different types of medical equipment identified through joint supportive supervision with the Zone Health Department to address critical service delivery gaps and improve the quality of maternal, newborn, and child health services.
• Addressing Critical Healthcare Needs
The donated equipment is designed to strengthen lifesaving services across health facilities. It includes newborn warmers to help prevent hypothermia among newborns, ORT Corner equipment for the management of childhood diarrheal diseases, cooking demonstration kits to promote improved nutrition practices, and milk preparation equipment for Stabilization Centers treating severely malnourished children.
These essential supplies will enable healthcare providers to deliver safer, higher-quality, and more effective services while improving health outcomes for mothers and children.
• Expanding Access to Quality Care
The MIHR Project has already been supporting 38 health centers and two hospitals across five districts in South Wollo. With the recent inclusion of Wereilu District, the project has expanded its reach to six districts, allowing more communities to benefit from improved healthcare services.
Beyond supplying equipment, the project also strengthens the capacity of health workers through training and mentorship, ensuring that the equipment is effectively utilized to provide quality care.
• Building Resilient Health Facilities
Resilient health systems are essential for responding to routine healthcare needs as well as emergencies and disease outbreaks. By filling critical equipment gaps, the MIHR Project is helping health facilities become better prepared to provide uninterrupted, high-quality services under all circumstances.
This support reflects the project's commitment to strengthening Ethiopia's health system and ensuring that health facilities have the resources needed to save lives and deliver quality care.
