In a distressing report by Dimtsi Weyane, the drought in Atsbi district has escalated to a critical level, posing a severe threat to both human and animal lives.

Communities are grappling with an acute social crisis, anxiously awaiting immediate assistance from the government, affluent individuals, charitable organizations, and other entities.

Farmers in the region, particularly in Gebrekidan sub-district, are contending with a dire shortage of water, exacerbated by the depletion of springs and dams across the district.

Mezgebe Girma, Chief Administrator of Atsbi Woreda, disclosed that the toll of the drought is devastating, with 111 people and 350 cattle having succumbed to the harsh conditions thus far.

Shockingly, a recent survey has revealed that 3,695 mothers and 97 children are teetering on the brink of death due to severe malnutrition, underscoring the urgent need for intervention.

The repercussions of the drought extend beyond health and livelihoods; it has also severely impacted education. Mezgebe Girma reported that 8,900 students, slated for enrollment this year, remain unregistered.

Additionally, 878 students have dropped out of school in recent days, while 99 young students in the Buholo area are grappling with infectious diseases.

Just one Food Supplement factory will change Tigray: By Engineer Tadesse Yemane

In addressing Tigray's pressing issue of famine and poverty, Tadesse Yemane proposes a practical fix. Establishing a food supplement factory with an investment under Birr 100 million could bring positive change to Tigray within months.

Highlighting the significance of Tigray's people, Tadesse emphasizes the need to combat poverty urgently. He suggests building a factory producing balanced Ready-to-Use Food Supplements, providing about 100 grams daily to infants.
Recognizing the challenges faced by Tigray, including war, genocide, and drought, Tadesse advocates for initiating School Feeding programs as a foundational step for recovery.

Referring to expert recommendations, Tadesse points out three essential products: Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) for severely malnourishedinfants,Ready-to-UseSupplementaryFood (RUSF) for moderately malnourished infants, and Small-quantity lipid-based nutrient supplements (SQ-LNS) for infants not yet malnourished.

These products, he believes, can lay the groundwork for Tigray's future.

In a remarkable display of unity and resilience, St. Mary's Church in Axum witnessed a joyous celebration today, marking its first public opening since the conclusion of the ongoing war. The historic town of Axum was bustling with both local and international tourists who flocked to partake in the festivities.
This momentous occasion not only symbolized a revival of cultural and religious activities but also served as a poignant tribute to the brave individuals of Tigray. Three years ago on this very day, they valiantly sacrificed themselves in defense of the sacred St. Mary Zion Church, resisting an attack by Eritrean soldiers.
As the people of Tigray gathered to celebrate, the air was filled with a mixture of joy and reflection.
The Celebration of St. Mary's Church serves as a testament to the resilience of the community, highlighting their determination to rebuild and preserve their cultural heritage in the face of adversity.
