Building the Africa We Want!

CAFOR recently hosted a special virtual session with Mr. Samuel Martin Samuels Harris to explore how the global diaspora can play a larger role in Africa’s development.

From Education & Teacher Development to Digital Transformation, CAFOR is ready to lead with a robust proposal pipeline and implementation-ready models in Ethiopia and the DRC. We discussed concrete ways to collaborate through:

● Mentorship and Knowledge Transfer.
● Institutional Linkages with universities and NGOs.
● The "African Safe Diaspora Initiative".

CAFOR is a premier Pan-African organization dedicated to promoting the integration of communication and media into international development programs across Africa. Working closely with the African Union and various international partners, we focus on TVET, teacher development, and digital literacy to ensure no African child or youth is left behind in the digital age.

⭐️About the Role

We are looking for a tech-savvy, mission-driven IT Volunteer to support our digital infrastructure. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in a high-impact Pan-African organization environment, contributing to projects that shape the future of education and media across the African continent.

⭐️Key Responsibilities

● Systems Support: Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting internal digital communication tools.
● Web Maintenance: Provide updates for the CAFOR website and digital library projects.
● Digital Security: Support data privacy and cybersecurity best practices.
● Collaboration: Work with the communications team on Pan-African webinars.
● Technical Documentation: Help create simple user guides for staff.

● Student or recent graduate in IT, Computer Science, or Information Management.
● Familiarity with WordPress, basic HTML/CSS, and Google Workspace.
● Strong problem-solving skills and remote-work discipline.
● Passion for Pan-African development and social impact.
● Fluency in English (French or Arabic is a major plus).

Africa’s diaspora is a massive economic engine! With annual remittances reaching nearly USD 100 billion, they contribute roughly 5.2% of Africa’s total GDP.

However, as Dr. Lawalley Cole (Executive Director of CAFOR) points out, declarations of unity have not yet yielded the systems needed to turn these assets into measurable development. To truly transform the continent, we must move beyond symbolic gestures and start building real economic infrastructure.

What does real ex*****on look like?

• Legal Recognition: Formally ratifying the AU's "Sixth Region" to give the diaspora a real seat at the table.

• Smart Funding: Moving beyond family support to investing in "diaspora bonds" that fund schools, hospitals, and green energy.

• Youth & Skills: Creating exchange programs between African universities and experts abroad to boost our "demographic dividend".

• Market Access: Using global diaspora networks as "connectors" to help African businesses trade more easily under the AfCFTA.

• Trust & Accountability: Enforcing strict anti-corruption policies and traceable investments to ensure resources reach their destination.

Africa doesn't lack resources; it lacks the systems to coordinate them. It is time to treat the diaspora not just as a source of help, but as a formal partner in Africa’s future.
