Thomson Foundation Young Journalist Award 2026 for Journalists worldwide (Funded trip to London, UK)

Applications are now open for the 2026 Thomson Foundation Young Journalist Award. The Young Journalist Award has given a boost to some brilliant journalists over the years, each one of them demonstrating a rich tapestry of investigative journalism, exposing social issues and holding power to account.

The annual competition is organised in partnership with the UK’s Foreign Press Association (FPA) and is presented at their annual awards event in London.

Requirements

To be eligible, you must:

Be 30 or under on 30 November 2026

Be from, or reporting in, a country with a GNI per capita of USD 20,000 or less

Submit three pieces of published or broadcast work, produced in the 12 months before 9 August 2026. These can be in print, audio, video or multimedia format

Send a verification letter from your editor, on official letterhead, confirming the work is yours and was published or broadcast. Freelancers can provide a letter from a commissioning editor or a journalism academic familiar with their work.

Benefits

Three finalists will be invited to London to attend the Foreign Press Association Media Awards on 30 November 2026, where the winner will be announced before an audience of leading figures in global journalism. While in the UK, finalists will also visit major newsrooms and take part in a bespoke training session designed to help them strengthen their reporting skills and professional networks.

የኢትዮጵያ ሲቪል ማኅበረሰብ ድርጅቶች ምክር ቤት (ECSOC) በኢትዮጵያ ሀገራዊ ምክክር ኮሚሽን የሚካሄደውን የኢትዮጵያ ሀገራዊ ምክክር ጉባኤ መጀመሩን አስመልክቶ ለሀገር ውስጥና ለውጭ ሀገር የመገናኛ ብዙኃን ተቋማት የጋዜጣዊ መግለጫ ሰጥቷል።

በመግለጫው የሀገራዊ ምክክር ጉባኤው ለኢትዮጵያ ዘላቂ ሰላም፣ ሀገራዊ መግባባት እና ዲሞክራሲያዊ ግንባታ ያለው ፋይዳ ተገልጿል። እንዲሁም በሂደቱ ውስጥ የሲቪል ማኅበረሰብ ድርጅቶች የሚያበረክቱት ሚና፣ ሁሉን አቀፍ ተሳትፎን ለማጠናከር የሚደረጉ ጥረቶች እና የሕዝብ ግንዛቤን ለማሳደግ የሚከናወኑ ተግባራት በስፋት ቀርበዋል።

በመግለጫው ወቅት የምክር ቤቱ ዋና ፕሬዚደንት አቶ አህመድ ሁሴን እንዲህ ብለዋል፦

"ሃገራዊ ምክክሩ የጋራ መፍትሄ መፈለጊያ መድረክ ነው"

የመገናኛ ብዙኃን ተቋማትም ትክክለኛ፣ ሚዛናዊ እና ወቅታዊ መረጃ በማድረስ ለሀገራዊ ምክክር ሂደቱ ስኬት የሚያበረክቱት አስተዋፅኦ እንደሚጠበቅ ተጠቁሟል።
የኢትዮጵያ ሲቪል ማኅበረሰብ ድርጅቶች ምክር ቤት ሁሉን አቀፍ፣ አሳታፊ እና ተዓማኒ የሀገራዊ ምክክር ሂደትን ለማጠናከር ከሁሉም ባለድርሻ አካላት ጋር ያለውን ትብብር በቀጣይነት እንደሚያጠናክር አረጋግጧል።

ECSOC Holds Press Conference on the Commencement of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Plenary

The Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations Council (ECSOC) held a press conference today to brief national and international media on the commencement of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Plenary, convened by the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (ENDC).

During the briefing, ECSOC highlighted the significance of the National Dialogue Plenary as an important opportunity to advance national consensus, promote sustainable peace, and strengthen Ethiopia's democratic future. The Council also underscored the vital role of civil society organizations in supporting an inclusive and participatory dialogue process while promoting public awareness and constructive civic engagement throughout the process.

In his remarks, the President of ECSOC, Mr. Ahmed Hussein, stated:

"The National Dialogue is a platform for finding common solutions"

The Council further emphasized the important role of the media in ensuring that the public receives accurate, balanced, and timely information throughout the National Dialogue Process, thereby contributing to greater public understanding and meaningful participation.

ECSOC reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with all stakeholders in support of an inclusive, peaceful, and credible National Dialogue Process.
