Today is . Postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) remains the leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide—yet these deaths are largely preventable.

Every mother, everywhere, deserves access to timely, evidence-based care during childbirth. To save lives, we need sustained action across all levels of healthcare

No woman should lose her life giving birth.

International Safe Abortion Day | 28 September

Safe abortion care is health care. Yet stigma, misinformation, and fear can prevent young people from accessing the accurate information and appropriate support they need.

On this day, let’s create spaces where young people can ask questions without judgment, access reliable information, and connect with qualified health professionals when they need care.

Let’s replace stigma and misinformation with understanding, accurate information, and support.

Empowering Media to Shape Evidence-Based Public Narratives in Ethiopia

Ahead of International Safe Abortion Day (September 28), St. Paul Institute for Reproductive Health and Rights and Ipas Ethiopia, in collaboration with the Guttmacher Institute, hosted a specialized media training workshop for journalists and media professionals.

The workshop was held under the theme Translating SRHR Research Evidence into Empowering Public Narratives.
Journalists play a crucial role in shaping public discourse around Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). The workshop brought together media professionals to strengthen their capacity to accurately interpret scientific research, counter anti-rights misinformation, and address public stigma through non-stigmatizing, evidence-based reporting.

Meet Nathnael, one of our outstanding Peer Educators! ⭐

Following our Safe Abortion Care (SAC) orientation, Nathnael put his learning into practice by supporting a young woman facing an unintended pregnancy and uncertainty about accessing appropriate care.

Through listening, sharing accurate information, and service linkage, he helped her overcome concerns around stigma and connect with qualified health professionals for appropriate care, counseling, and psychosocial support.

Nathnael’s experience highlights the power of peer education in connecting young people with accurate information, supportive guidance, and appropriate care.
Thank you, Nathnael, for turning knowledge into meaningful community support!
