Youth Power in Womba! ⚽

Remember the Peace Ambassadors we trained back in January? They are officially taking the lead!

On April 3, our youth leaders and the Community Peace Forum organized an incredible football tournament in Womba Refugee Camp. They brought together
neighbors from Womba, Dabus, and the Sudanese refugee community for a day of fun and friendship.

This is what "Tinsae" is all about, empowering our youth to lead the way toward a peaceful future. We are so proud of our Peace Ambassadors for proving that peace starts with us! 🙌💪

We are pleased to share that we have successfully implemented a School-Based Peacebuilding Workshop from March 31 to April 3, 2026, in Bambasi Woreda – Womba Refugee Camp and surrounding host community.
The workshop brought together 30 Grade 8 students from two schools, one from the refugee community and one from the host community, with equal representation from both groups. To support effective facilitation, 4 teachers (2 from each school) also participated.
Focus of the Workshop
The activity aimed to transform students into “Peace Broadcasters” — young leaders who use their voices to promote unity and prevent conflict within their schools.
Through the Mini-Media approach, students learned to:
• Inform – Share school news
• Inspire – Deliver poems and positive messages
• Correct – Address and prevent harmful rumors
To ensure sustainability:
Speaker and microphone sets were provided to both schools
School Peace Clubs were established to continue peace messaging
In addition, all participating students were supported with school bags.
This initiative creates a meaningful platform where students become active agents of peace, strengthening social cohesion between refugee and host communities.
The same activity is currently being implemented in Tsore (Homosha Woreda), and we look forward to sharing updates upon its completion.
This project is implemented by Tinsae Humanitarian Charity Organization (THCO) with the generous support of the Government of Canada through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).

We had the great honor of welcoming H.E. Nicolas Simard, Ambassador of Canada to Ethiopia, along with Mr. Pierric Le Dorze and their colleagues, to Tsore Refugee Camp in Homosha Woreda, Benishangul-Gumuz Region, where they visited the Peacebuilding and Social Cohesion Initiative implemented by Tinsae Humanitarian Charity Organization (THCO) with support from the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI-Sudan).

The delegation arrived in Assosa in the morning and traveled to Tsore Refugee Camp, where they were warmly received by THCO staff and local stakeholders. Upon arrival, the Ambassador, Mr. Pierric Le Dorze, and their colleagues held a courtesy meeting at the RRS Tsore Field Office with representatives from the Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS) and other local partners to discuss ongoing peacebuilding efforts in the refugee-hosting community.

Following the meeting, the delegation attended a joint community football event organized as part of the project’s youth-led peace initiatives. The match brought together youth from refugee and host communities, symbolizing unity, dialogue, and cooperation. During the event, the Ambassador delivered brief remarks on the importance of peace, dialogue, and collaboration, and officially opened the match by tossing the coin to start the game.

In consideration of the ongoing Ramadan and the Orthodox fasting season, the match was intentionally kept shorter to respect the wellbeing of the players.

After the game, the Ambassador, Mr. Pierric Le Dorze, and their colleagues held a discussion session with the Peace Ambassadors and Community Peace Forum (CPF) members trained through the project. The participants shared their experiences and reflected on the impact of the project in strengthening peaceful coexistence between refugee and host communities.

We are grateful for the visit and continued support of the Government of Canada through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, which is helping empower youth to become leaders for peace and dialogue in their communities.

Strengthening Peace Through Community Action in Tsore and Bambasi
Following the successful completion of our 6-day Youth Peacebuilding Training, where 60 youth (30 from Tsore and 30 from Bambasi, equally representing host and refugee communities) were equipped with skills in dialogue and conflict resolution we are proud to share another major milestone.
We have officially established and launched the Community Peace Forums (CPF) in both Tsore and Bambasi.
Each CPF consists of 40 members, with equal representation from host and refugee communities (20 host and 20 refugees in each woreda).
The first meetings have now been successfully conducted, marking the beginning of structured, inclusive, and community-led peacebuilding efforts.
Through biweekly meetings, the CPF will:
• Promote dialogue and trust
• Prevent and address emerging conflicts
• Work closely with trained youth peace ambassadors
• Strengthen social cohesion
Peace is built together and together our communities are taking ownership of sustainable peace.
This initiative is implemented by THCO with the support of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), Government of Canada.

Following the successful completion of the 6-day youth peacebuilding training in Tsore Refugee Camp (Homosha Woreda), we are pleased to share that we have now also successfully completed the same 6-day training in Bambasi Woreda, Womba Refugee Camp and the surrounding host community, marking the conclusion of this core activity across both project sites.
The training brought together youth from host and refugee communities, strengthening unity, trust, and cooperation through practical skills in:
• Mediation and conflict analysis
• Dialogue facilitation and effective communication
• Trauma awareness and psychosocial sensitivity
• Gender inclusion and inclusive leadership
• Co-creation of local peace action plans
Following the training, the youth are now stepping forward as Youth Peace Trainees, ready to apply their skills through joint community initiatives, including peace dialogues, cleaning campaigns, and peace football activities. These initiatives provide real-life spaces where peaceful coexistence and collaboration are practiced, not just discussed.
With the completion of the training in both Tsore and Bambasi, youth leadership for peace has been strengthened across communities, contributing to sustainable social cohesion between refugee and host populations.
This project is implemented with the generous support of the Government of Canada through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI). We sincerely thank Embassy of Canada in Sudan du Canada au Soudan CanadaauSoudan for supporting youth-led peacebuilding and social cohesion.

We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of our recent twelve-days training program in Adigrat, as part of our ongoing nine-month project, "Empowering Young Women in Tigray as Effective Peace Builders," in partnership with the Government of Canada's CFLI. This training brought together 15 dedicated young women and 5 men from Adigrat University, to equipp them with essential skills in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, women's empowerment, and community engagement.

Throughout the training, participants engaged in interactive learning experiences, delving into key areas such as advocacy techniques, digital literacy, and effective community engagement strategies. This initiative builds upon our previous successful training sessions in Abiy Adi and Maichew, where we witnessed remarkable enthusiasm and commitment from young leaders eager to drive positive change in their communities. The Adigrat training marks a significant milestone in our mission to empower the youth of Tigray as powerful agents of change.
