Donors and partners from the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), Light for the World, CARE Ethiopia, the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), and the Austrian Red Cross (AutRC) conducted a monitoring visit to Bilate Zuria and Hawassa Zuria Woredas on 11 May 2026 to assess the progress of the Livelihood for Resilience (L4R) project.

The visit brought together implementing partners and local government representatives to observe resilience-building and climate adaptation interventions across targeted kebeles. The delegation engaged with Project Steering Committees, community representatives, and local leaders to discuss project coordination, community participation, and local ownership.

During the field visits, the team observed Climate Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment (CVCA) activities, water harvesting structures, crop nursery plantations, irrigation sites, and livelihood support initiatives, including false banana and corn seedling distribution and support for vulnerable households.

The mission concluded with a debriefing session in Hawassa, where partners reflected on key lessons and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening resilient and climate-adaptive communities through the L4R project.

“Change begins with skills,” one trainer shared as participants gathered in Bishoftu for four days of learning, reflection, and collaboration.

From April 20 to 23, 2026, Light for the World Ethiopia, through the We Can Work Program, conducted a National Core Life Skills Training of Trainers, bringing together facilitators committed to advancing an inclusive future of work.

Implemented with Development Expertise Center, Emanuel Development Association, and STEMpower, and in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation and the African Disability Forum (ADF), the initiative is creating pathways for women and men with disabilities to access dignified and meaningful employment across Africa.

The training focused on building essential life skills from self-awareness and communication to self-advocacy, mental health, and entrepreneurship, equipping trainers to better support persons with disabilities in navigating their journeys toward employment and independence.

By strengthening trainers, we strengthen opportunities. Together, we are building a more inclusive workforce where no one is left behind.
