VADO successfully held training on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) for board members, staff, volunteers, and partners on August 5, 2025, at Pinna Hotel, Hawassa.

A total of 34 participants (18 women) took part, in this important training aimed to raise awareness and build the capacity of participants to prevent, identify, and respond effectively to incidents of sexual exploitation and abuse in both organizational and community settings.

The sessions were highly interactive, combining presentations, group discussions, case studies/scenarios, and experience sharing. Participants had the opportunity to reflect on real-life scenarios, deepen their understanding of accountability mechanisms, and explore practical steps for building safer and more inclusive environments.
The training also reinforced VADO’s organizational commitment to upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct, safeguarding the dignity and rights of all individuals, and fostering a culture of transparency, respect, and zero tolerance for abuse.

We extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who actively participated and contributed to the success of this initiative. Together, we are taking meaningful steps toward creating safe and respectful spaces for all.

VADO conducted its Board of Directors meeting on August 5, 2025, at Pinna Hotel, Hawassa to review progress, evaluate the achievement report and future plans, and strengthen governance structures

During the meeting, outgoing board members were honored for completing their terms in line with VADO’s bylaws. The board endorsed the organization’s performance report and future plan, and new board members were officially nominated and welcomed.
As a women-led organization, we are proud that 4 out of 6 newly appointed board members are women, reflecting our ongoing commitment to gender inclusion and transformative leadership. The board also appointed Executive Director. Finally, an orientation session was held to brief new members on VADO’s mission, achievements, Code of Conduct, and governance responsibilities.

We thank the outgoing members and warmly welcome the new board as we continue our mission to create lasting impact in the community.

Advancing Protection and Mental Health Support in Yalo Woreda Afar Region: Quarterly Milestones (June–July 2025)

During the June–July 2025 quarter, VADO, with support from UN Women–WPHF, made significant strides in strengthening Protection and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services in Yalo Woreda. A gender-responsive Feedback & Complaint Mechanism was established, engaging 35 stakeholders and empowering communities to report issues related to PSEA and GBV safely. Two psychosocial support centers at Rukudora and Udayle were equipped and launched, providing confidential mental health services. Awareness campaigns reached 120 community members across 9 kebeles, helping reduce mental health stigma. Individual and group counseling services officially began, led by a dedicated MHPSS officer, and will continue for 16 months. Additionally, a strong referral system was developed through training 40 key actors, mapping pathways, and distributing tools to enhance coordination and survivor support across the woreda.

Empowering Recovery and Resilience:
Quarterly Achievements in Yalo Woreda Afar Region (June–July 2025)

From June to July 2025, VADO, with support from UN Women–WPHF, implemented impactful humanitarian and livelihood interventions in Yalo Woreda, Afar Region. Key achievements include the distribution of 270 goats to 135 vulnerable households (75% women), cash and food assistance to 200 households, and livelihood skills training for 135 beneficiaries. The project also established three community gardens/cooperatives to promote self-reliance. Under protection and mental health efforts, a gender-responsive Feedback & Complaint Mechanism was launched, two psychosocial support centers were equipped, and community awareness sessions on mental health reached 120 participants. Individual and group counseling services were initiated, and the referral system was strengthened through training 40 key actors and formalizing procedures to better support women and vulnerable groups.

Guided by a gender-balanced Board and a dedicated leadership team, VADO upholds principles of integrity, inclusiveness, and professionalism. With a diverse staff—over half of whom are women—VADO brings expertise in socio-economic development, finance, and project management.
