EUROMARFOR EUROMARFOR or EMF is a Maritime Multinational Force, created by France, Italy, Spain and Portugal

EUROMARFOR was born in 1995 when France, Italy, Portugal and Spain agreed to create a tailored force in order to fulfill missions defined in the Petersberg’s Declaration, such as sea control, humanitarian missions, peacekeeping operations, crisis response operations (pre-emptive deployment, maritime patrolling, mine clearing, etc) and peace enforcement.

EUROMARFOR activation in ITA MINEX 26.

On May 13rd, EUROMARFOR is activated for the Italian Navy's annual, specialized Mine Countermeasures (MCM) exercise.


This exercise improve command staff and crew performance in planning and conducting Mine Countermeasures operations. Furthermore tests advanced underwater technologies, validates modern naval procedures, and trains forces to clear sea lanes and secure safe port access within a realistic, multi-threat asymmetric environment.


Leaded by the Italian Navy, bringing in minehunters, divers, and unmanned underwater vehicles from the participant allied nations.

EUROMARFOR IN MARITIME COMBAT & ADVANCED TRAINING.

EMF Task Group, composed of NRP ALVARES CABRAL and ITS BETTICA, is activated on May 11st for the exercise MARITIME COMBAT & ADVANCED TRAINING (MCAT) leaded by the Italian Navy.

The training focuses on developing tactical proficiency and operational integration. Participants will be involved in serial training events that simulate realistic operational environments, enabling units to refine their capabilities across multiple warfare domains, including ASW, AAW, ASUW, MNW and EAW.


This training aims to consolidate core competencies while enhancing readiness, ensuring that all participating elements achieve a higher level of combat preparedness and mission effectiveness.

EUROMARFOR activation in ESP MINEX.

EUROMARFOR was activated on 27th of April, in order to participate in ESP MINEX. This exercise is designated to train participant units and staffs in planning and ex*****on of MCM task Group operations in mined coastal waters and harbour entrances, in order to allow freedom of navigation and freedom of action from the sea to mainland, in a demanding tactical scenario, under medium level asymmetric and hybrid threat.


This is the first 2026 activation for MCM looking for strengthen MCM tactical and technical knowledge in an asymmetric threat environment as well as enhancing the cooperation with other international maritime entities, thus strengthening the maritime security.

EUROMARFOR SUB-WORKING GROUP IN ROME.
The first EUROMARFOR Sub-working Group meeting of the year took place on 13rd and 14th of April at the “Circolo ufficiali della Marina Militare” in Rome, attended by both representatives of the EMF Member nations Naval Staffs and the EMF Permanent Cell.
The EUROMARFOR Sub-working Group (SWG EMF) is in charge of Force’s technical and planning issues and conducts studies on training and operational topics, thus helping to support the decision-making process of the EMF Political Military Working Group (POLMIL WG).
The meeting, chaired by the Italian Navy as secretariat nation and hosted by the Italian navy, focused on the outcomes of the last 6 months activities and on the upcoming activations that will take place during the Portuguese Command (2025-2027).
A particular focus was on the incoming activations for the current year as well as the Activity Plan 2027 – 2029, that aims at developing an strong presence in EUROMARFOR influence area.
EMF will continue working to further develop the interoperability among units and personnel thus ensuring the maritime security through an high level of info sharing among the EMF Navies operational HQs as well as an endless cooperation with other international organizations, namely EU, NATO and the UN.

EUROMARFOR FCDR VISIT TO FS DIXMUDE.

On February 20th EUROMARFOR FCDR RADM Martinuzzi (ITA Navy) paid a visit to the FS DIXMUDE, that was involve in the French mission Jeanne d’Arc 2026, deployed in the same area of ATALANTA.



The FCDR and his COS (PRT Navy) were received on board by the CO´s of FS “Dixmude” and FS “Aconit”. The mission combines the end stage of the training course for cadets of the French Naval Academy with an operational presence and engagement deployment.

EU OPERATIONAL COMMANDERS MEETING.
On February 25 the Operational Naval Commanders of the EU meet for the first time in Rome. This meeting involve the three main naval missions sea under EUNAVFOR (IRINI, ATALANTA and ASPIDES), being part of the European Union Security and Defence Policy.



EUROMARFOR was invited to participate, and it has been a great opportunity exchange information and share experiences and operative proposals.



The main goal was to highlight that all our effort is focus on the protection of our citizens, our seas and our common future.

EUROMARFOR IS ACTIVATED FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR IN GULF OF GUINEA.
The last 7th March, ESPS “Furor” and FS “Commandant Bouan”, had the opportunity to cooperate closely, contributing to joint training and reinforcing cooperation between our navies in support of European maritime security initiatives in East Africa.

The training programme included communications checks, a surface firing exercise with the ship’s main gun, electronic warfare exercises, communications exercises, Link-11 tactical communications procedures, establishment of a Link-11 network during the PASSEX, cross-deck personnel exchanges and evolution exercises.

All exercises were conducted professionally and in line with EMF objectives. Personnel exchanges further enhanced mutual understanding, while tactical serials provided realistic opportunities to test procedures and coordination.

EUROMARFOR WAS ACTIVATED IN THE INDIAN OCEAN IN SUPPORT OF OPERATION EUNAVFOR ATALANTA.

EUROMARFOR has been activated in support of operation EUNAVFOR ATALANTA, on its 52st rotation, it is the fourth consecutive activation that shows the close cooperation and mutual understanding between the EUROPEAN UNION and EUROMARFOR.
This operation is being developed on board the Italian Frigate BIANCHI and the Spanish frigate CANARIAS under the command of a multinational staff leaded by Italy with Rear Admiral Daniele Martinuzzy.
Until the end of this rotation, EUROMARFOR will contribute to safeguard area stability, prevent, deter and repress piracy, protect UN World Food Programme vessels, and prevent arms, drugs or other illicit trafficking.
