We are delighted to share with you the photographs of the recent opening of our 6th MABS Charity Shop in Calasparra.
The shop will be open on TUESDAYS, THURSDAYS AND FRIDAYS from 10.00 until 1.30 and will raise funds for the cancer patients we are supporting in the area. Previously the team of volunteers had endured the harsh conditions working on the weekly market so when the opportunity arose, they jumped at the chance to open their own shop.
The volunteers have worked so hard over the shop looking and feeling so good - please support them.
We were fortunate to have the Mayor of Clasparra, Teresa García Sánchez and the British Vice Consul Sara Munsterhjelm present at the official opening on the 5th May.

Update on Roman Burchell

Most of you will now be aware that we at Cancer Support MABS Fundación have been helping Roman Burchell, a brave 13-year-old boy from Jávea who has been suffering from a rare form of cancer.

Below is a message from his mum, Martina. We wish them all the very best and send them all our love. We too cannot wait for Tuesday, when Romi will finally be able to ring that bell! 💜🎗️

“Romi is now only two therapies away from ringing that bell.

The photos below show Romi during his treatment at the centre where he is undergoing therapy. The size of the machine used to create the proton treatment is enormous and hidden away underground.

The medical team at Centro de Protonterapia Quirónsalud in Madrid have been absolutely amazing in caring for our Romi.

Thank you all so much for your continued support and donations. Without you, and without MABS Cancer Support Foundation, none of this would have been possible.”

Below is an update on Roman Burchell from his mum, Martina. …

I'm beginning to take deep breaths before posting the updates now.

The side affects from the therapy are kicking in. We were expecting it but it's still hard for us both. Romi's throat is "on fire" and inflamed. He is scared to eat and drink and he is loosing his appetite and weight. He gets more tired and there are still 14 more sessions to take..!!!!

We will not be using metro anymore but trying to find some other form of transport. The last option for us are taxis but they drive like crazy here in Madrid and it's very stressful and scary. We turned to some associations but they can't help us for many different reasons.

One of them is that we are not residents in Madrid or that we raised enough money to cope....

On the other side despite of everything we must stay positive and forget the tears... Romi is on Ibuprofen and Paracetamol at the moment to ease his situation. He still gets to do his homeworks and a call from his best friend Noah every day really cheers him up!

We also had a surprise visit from my brother last weekend who came for a little emotional support.

Thank you everyone for all your support, positive and cheerful messages and prayers
And of course many thanks to MABS who are being absolutely fantastic as always.
We will keep you updated.

Lots of love to you all from me and Romi

UPDATE ON ROMAN BURCHELL FROM MARTINA, HIS MUM

Romi is having his 14th therapy later on today and here is a little update.

Despite the side affects that are slowly kicking in he is still coping with the whole situation very well. His mouth is getting inflamed and swollen but he can still eat and drink ok. I cook for him food every day as we have a wonderful little kitchen in our apartment. He gets more tired than usual but we still use public transport to get to Therapy Centre and back which takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes by Underground Metro and Metro Ligero. When he will start feeling weaker we will be using taxis which can be very costly at the time of his afternoon therapies (€40 each way)

He also does his homework and sends them off to his wonderful teachers who are being very supportive and understanding. We had his daddy and sister visit us last weekend. It really cheered him up a lot.

Thank you all so much for your continuous support and sharing. We could not do this without your help!!!

Money raised are being used for:

- transportation to Protonterapy Centre and back every day
- buying special cosmetics to protect his
face, body, hair after
every treatment
- everyday grocery and essentials shopping
- making this stay for him as much comfortable as possible

*****************************************

Thanks to our generous donors, loyal customers, and dedicated volunteers, we’ve been able to provide a comfortable apartment for Roman and his mum, Martina, a place where they can rest and recharge between therapy treatments.

We are so grateful to everyone who supports us in any way. We truly couldn’t do this without you.

R.I.P.

It is with profound sadness that the lady who tragically lost her life in the recent fire at Javea Park was our dear friend and valued Monday volunteer, Arantza Lalana.

Arantza was a much-loved member of MABS, and her kindness and warmth touched everyone who had the privilege of working alongside her. She will be deeply missed by all of us.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Arantza’s family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.

May she rest in peace. 🖤😢
