On Sunday, Geoff and I were supporting our local horse rescue and sanctuary, ARCH, with their autumn festival. NaturTreat is a little sidekick of Sunny Shores Dog Rescue - Spain . For 3 years we have been selling dehydrated meat and fish for dogs at knockout prices which helps support the dogs here and enables them to eat something delicious each day.
Sunday we raised 235€ with our stall. Thank you to everyone who attended 🙏🏻🐾❤️

😢❤️ RUBY RED – 4½ YEARS WAITING A FAMILY TO LOVE HER ❤️😢
Four and a half years. And still, Ruby Red waits. 💔
In July 2022, a beautiful red-coloured dog arrived at Sunny Shores Dog Rescue in Spain alongside her best friend, Big Blue.
Their story was one of unimaginable cruelty. Following a family feud, both dogs were poisoned, thrown from a moving vehicle and abandoned, left for dead.
But somehow, they survived.
Ruby survived the poison. She survived the cruelty, the betrayal and the pain. And despite everything humans had done to her, she never lost her ability to trust and love people.
For the first three years of her rescue life, Ruby shared her days with Big Blue. Having survived their terrible ordeal together and found safety together, they remained constant companions.
Then, in March 2025, something wonderful happened.
Big Blue was adopted. ❤️
After years of waiting, he finally got the happy ending he deserved. A family of his own, a comfortable home and the love that every dog should experience.
But Ruby stayed behind.
Since Big Blue's departure, Ruby has adjusted to life as an only dog. In fact, she has thoroughly enjoyed the extra attention, the individual fuss and the opportunity to have her humans all to herself.
We have been able to see even more of her lovely personality. She adores human company, enjoys her walks, loves a good back scratch and will happily soak up every moment of affection offered to her.
Ruby is very much loved here at Sunny Shores, but despite all the affection, care and attention she receives, we know she yearns for something we cannot give her — a family and a home of her very own. ❤️
She deserves to wake up somewhere other than a kennel. She deserves a comfortable bed in a warm home, familiar routines and someone who belongs to her just as much as she belongs to them.
She deserves to be somebody's special girl.
Over the years, Ruby has watched countless dogs arrive at Sunny Shores and leave for their forever homes.
Puppies have grown up and been adopted. Older dogs have found their families. Dogs who arrived years after Ruby have come and gone.
And still, she waits.
The heartbreaking thing about dogs like Ruby is that they don't know how much time has passed.
They don't know that four and a half years is an extraordinary amount of time to spend waiting for a family.
They don't know why the dog next door gets chosen while they remain behind.
They simply accept another day, another familiar routine, another night in their kennel.
And tomorrow, they wake up and do it all again.
Ruby Red is now six years old.
She has spent most of her adult life in rescue, and we desperately want the next chapter of her life to be different.
We don't want Ruby to become another elderly dog who has spent her best years waiting for a home that never came.
We want her to experience the things that other much-loved family dogs take for granted.
Ruby isn't asking for anything extraordinary.
She doesn't need a mansion or acres of land. She doesn't need a family who can offer her the world.
She just needs someone willing to make her their world. ❤️
Ruby has already survived more than most dogs should ever have to endure. She has shown patience, resilience and an extraordinary capacity for affection.
Surely, after everything she has been through, it is finally her turn.
Somewhere out there is a person or family who could change everything for this lovely girl.
Perhaps they haven't seen her yet. Perhaps her photograph hasn't reached the right person. Perhaps her forever home is just one share away.

💔 NYX — THE MUM WHO IS STILL WAITING 💔
At the beginning of 2023, Nyx arrived at Sunny Shores Dog Rescue with her eight precious puppies.
Those eight puppies have all gone on to find wonderful, loving homes. They're thriving, cherished and enjoying the lives we dreamed of for them. ❤️
But what about their mum?
Nyx is still here. Still waiting. Still hoping.
We're fast approaching 2027, and while her puppies have been enjoying their happy-ever-afters, Nyx has watched the months turn into years without finding her own.
She did her job as a mum. She raised her babies, and we made sure they all had the futures they deserved.
Now surely it's Nyx turn!! 🐾❤️
Nyx is such a gentle, loving girl who asks for so very little. She absolutely adores human interaction, enjoys her food and looks forward to her walks. She never complains, rarely makes a sound and simply accepts her daily routine without fuss or demands.
There's something particularly heartbreaking about a dog who has become so accustomed to kennel life that she no longer expects anything different.
But Nyx deserves different. She deserves a comfortable bed, a home of her own, someone to fuss over her and the opportunity to enjoy all those little things that other dogs take for granted.
She would make a fantastic companion, either as an only dog, where she could enjoy all the attention for herself, or sharing her home with a similarly calm male.
Almost four years. Four Christmases. Four years of watching other dogs leave for their forever homes.
And still, nobody has chosen Nyx.
We don't want her to spend another Christmas wondering when her turn will come.
She has given us nothing but love, patience and gentleness. Surely somebody out there has a little room in their home and a lot of room in their heart for Nyx? ❤️

🏡🙏🏻 FOR ADOPTION – RICO 🙏🏻🏡
💙🤍🤎🖤 OUR HANDSOME RICO 🖤🤎🤍💙
One year at Sunny Shores Dog Rescue. Surely it's time for Rico to find a family of his very own? ❤️🐾
Rico is a gorgeous 4-year-old Bodeguero, a traditional Spanish breed of terrier originally used to keep the w**e and sherry cellars free from rats. With their lovely long legs, lively personalities and affectionate nature, Bodegueros make wonderful companions.
Rico came to us a year ago following his release from the local perrera (pound). We don't know why he ended up there, but we do know that he deserved far better, and we have spent the last twelve months making sure he knows just how special he is.
Until a few months ago, Rico shared his kennel with the lovely Alba, who has since been adopted and is enjoying her own happy ending.
And Rico? Well, he seems to have decided that being an only dog in his kennel has certain advantages! 😂
All the cuddles, all the fuss and all the attention, without having to share any of it!
He's thoroughly enjoying his one-to-one time with us, and it's been lovely watching him make the most of being the centre of attention.
Rico really is a delightful little character. He's affectionate, spotlessly clean in his kennel and an absolute pleasure to walk on the lead. He loves human company and is equally happy enjoying a cuddle or heading off to explore the countryside.
And if you've noticed his rather short tail, there's nothing missing! Rico has a naturally bobbed tail, something quite common in Bodegueros and just another part of his individual charm. ❤️
We think Rico would make a fantastic family companion, particularly for someone who enjoys getting out and about. Whether it's a leisurely stroll, a countryside ramble or simply relaxing together at home, Rico would be delighted to be included.
But here's the thing.
Rico has already spent a year waiting. He's watched his kennel mate leave for her forever home, and although he's perfectly happy and settled with us, we'd love nothing more than to see him enjoying the same wonderful opportunity.
A home where the cuddles don't have to end, a home where he has his own bed, his own family and someone to love him every single day.
Rico isn't asking for the world. Just a little corner of it to call his own. 🏡❤️

Ripp is a 2-year-old Pocket Bully with a huge personality packed into a very small frame.
We're delighted to say that this little boy is really coming on in leaps and bounds — admittedly, very short leaps and not much of a bound, but impressive nonetheless given his stature and leg length! 😄🐾
Ripp originally came to us as a breeder surrender. He was an extremely shy, nervous and hand-shy little boy who preferred to keep his distance from people. He showed no signs of aggression unless unnecessarily pushed beyond his comfort zone, but human interaction was something he simply didn't understand or trust.
What a difference we're seeing now. ❤️
Ripp is actively seeking out human interaction rather than shying away from it. He now loves being stroked and groomed and will happily enjoy a fuss — something that would have been almost unimaginable when he first arrived.
And then there's breakfast time! 😂
Ripp has developed his own funny little pre-breakfast dance, making absolutely sure everyone knows he's ready and waiting for his food. It's another little glimpse of the character that was hidden away beneath all that nervousness.
For a boy who was once so wary of hands and human contact, this is a massive turnaround, and we're incredibly proud of how far he has come.
That doesn't mean Ripp will walk into a new home and immediately behave as though he's lived there forever. His new family will need to give him time, patience and space to settle. The first days and weeks may have their challenges while he learns that he's safe again, but we've now seen exactly what is waiting on the other side of that uncertainty.
And the end result will be worth every bit of patience and effort.
Ripp doesn't need a home offering huge amounts of physical exercise. What he needs most is a safe, quiet and warm home, with a private, secure enclosed garden or even a secure terrace, where he can happily mooch around, inside and outside, at his own pace.
Once he feels secure and learns to trust his surroundings, Ripp will reward that patience with affection, personality and so much love. From there, as his confidence continues to grow, he can gradually begin venturing further afield and enjoying walks.
Ripp is ready to travel, wherever that wonderful home may be. 🙏🏻❤️

💙 KEAVES – THREE MONTHS ON, STILL WAITING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME 💙

Three months ago, Keaves arrived at Sunny Shores Dog Rescue. A magnificent Blue XL American Bully who, through absolutely no fault of his own, found himself without a home and facing an uncertain future.

At just three years old, Keaves had already experienced a huge upheaval in his life. Following a change in his owners' circumstances, Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) in the UK meant that finding him another home in Great Britain was not an option.

Thankfully, through a third party, his owners contacted us, and arrangements were made for Keaves to travel safely to Spain and begin a new chapter with Sunny Shores.

And what a difference three months can make!
Keaves is now completely settled in his surroundings. He knows his routine, feels safe and secure, and is a happy, contented boy who has become very much part of everyday life here at the rescue.

But there is one thing we cannot give him, no matter how hard we try,
a loving home and a family of his very own ❤️

Keaves has the most incredible eyes, a wonderful personality and a temperament to match.

He is a big, strong boy with an equally big appetite! He absolutely loves his food, enjoys his walks and has shown no aggression towards people or the other dogs in our care.

Over these past three months, we have had the opportunity to really get to know Keaves, to understand his character and to see the lovely dog behind the impressive appearance.

He is still a young boy and would benefit from continued training, guidance and the stability of a permanent home. Fortunately, being so food-motivated, we think a pocketful of treats will go a very long way!

Keaves is happy here, and that is important to us. But being happy in a rescue environment is not the same as belonging to a family.
He deserves more than a kennel, a routine and the kindness of the people who care for him. He deserves a sofa, a home, someone to love and someone who loves him back.

We don't want Keaves to become another dog who spends months, or even years, waiting simply because of his breed, his size or the way he looks.
We want someone to see what we see. A beautiful boy with so much to offer.

For adoption within Spain, a PPP licence will be required. Suitable homes in the Netherlands, Belgium and Finland can also be considered.

Sadly, Keaves cannot be rehomed back into the UK, but there is a whole world beyond there and somewhere in that world we believe his perfect family is waiting.

Three months ago, we gave Keaves somewhere safe to land. Now we need someone to give him somewhere to belong. 💙
