En un estudio cualitativo realizado con 169 personas mayores, la mayoría de los participantes optó por productos que combinaban THC y CBD o por productos que solo contenían CBD, en lugar de productos con THC puro. Las principales motivaciones fueron evitar los fármacos y buscar alivio de los síntomas tras haber agotado otras opciones; eran frecuentes las preocupaciones sobre los efectos psicoactivos asociados, especialmente en el caso de los productos que contenían THC.

Edible Cannabis and Pain, Sleep, and Mental Health Management in Older Adults, the fastest-growing group of cannabis consumers in the US.
In a qualitative study of 169 older adults, most participants selected combination THC and CBD or CBD-only products, rather than THC alone. Primary motivations were avoiding pharmaceuticals and seeking symptom relief after other options were exhausted; concerns about associated psychoactive outcomes were common, particularly for THC-containing products.
The findings of this study suggest that older adults in the US are increasingly turning to cannabis for symptom management; health care systems should consider motivations and concerns in physician guidance and resources.
