United World Schools (UWS) 📚 We believe that when you educate the future, you change the future. Yet, 258 million children worldwide are out of school. This changes now. Because it does.

Education accelerates poverty reduction, female empowerment, and improved infant mortality. UWS works to ensure children have access to quality, inclusive education in remote and marginalised communities by collaborating with local partners, communities and governments. We deliver schools, we train teachers and we strengthen education systems. We educate like the future depends on it. Join us. The

Last week, we shared why Community Governance is one of the five core impact areas of Education PLUS.

Improving learning outcomes requires more than support inside the classroom. It also means strengthening the role families and communities play in children’s education.

Today, we’re sharing what that looks like in practice.

Meet a mother from rural Nepal who takes part in a mothers’ group supported through UWS’ Education plus programme. Through community discussions and shared learning, she gained the confidence and skills to better support her children’s education at home.

Before, helping her children outside school was difficult. Now, she uses her mobile phone and the internet to help them search for answers, encourages them while they study, and stays actively involved in their learning.

The result?
👩‍👧 Mothers more confident supporting learning at home
📱 Families using digital tools to continue learning beyond the classroom
🏫 Communities taking a stronger role in children’s education and school accountability

When communities are empowered to take ownership of education, lasting change happens for children.

Back-to-school season has arrived in Nepal, and with it comes the excitement of fresh notebooks, reunited friendships, and classrooms filled with possibility.

For many children, returning to school is more than just the start of a new term. It’s a step toward brighter opportunities, bigger dreams, and the power to shape their own future. 💙

At UWS, we believe every child deserves access to quality education and the chance to thrive. Here’s to a year of learning, growth, and change driven by young minds ready to make a difference. UWS Nepal

This Thursday, we travel to Cambodia to celebrate our brave Nary, a thirteen-year-old student in Cambodia.

While most children in her village walked to school each morning, Nary stayed at home. Born with a physical condition that made her head appear larger than that of other children's, she often faced hurtful comments and teasing from those around her.

Nary’s return to school was made possible by the combined efforts of her teachers, the School Management Committee (SMC), and the school’s Mothers’ Group, with support from UWS Cambodia. Together, they worked closely with Nary’s family and community to rebuild trust and encourage her to resume her studies.

Better learning starts with better support for teachers.

Kham Khong has been a teacher for 16 years, working in a government school in rural Cambodia. Earlier this year, her school joined UWS Cambodia's Education PLUS programme.

Through practical training focused on interactive reading and classroom activities, she’s seen a shift in how learning happens in her school.

💬 “Before, the teacher talked and students just listened. Now, students participate more and are more confident to speak.”

With new tools, guidance, and support, Kham Khong says both teachers and students are more confident:
👩‍🏫 Teachers are trying new methods
📚 Classrooms are more active
🗣️ Students are speaking up and engaging in learning

This is what UWS' model looks like in practice - working with government schools across Cambodia and Nepal to support teachers and help schools work better for children.

This Cambodian Mother's Day, we are celebrating mothers championing change every single day. 💛

Mothers are not only caregivers, they are also educators, leaders, providers, and powerful advocates for their children’s futures.

Today, UWS celebrates the mothers building stronger communities and inspiring lasting change for generations to come. 🌸

Big milestones are being reached in rural Nepal.

For some students, high school is no longer just a dream. They are becoming the first generation in their families to get there. For girls, access to proper wash facilities and sanitary products means they no longer have to miss school during menstruation.

These changes may seem simple, but for communities that have faced barriers to education for generations, they are life-changing.

Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and shape their own future, and together, we’re making that possible.

Did you know? We're working in 64 government schools in Cambodia and Nepal, supporting thousands more children in receiving quality primary education.

By strengthening teaching, supporting school leaders, and working closely with local communities, we are hoping to tackle the greatest barrier in education. Not the lack of school buildings, but low learning outcomes in schools that already exist.

This is how we’re working towards a world with

Since 2009, UWS has built schools in remote communities - creating access to education where there was none.

But today the challenge has shifted.

In many places, schools now exist.
What's missing is quality learning.

Alongside building schools, we now also work with existing schools, supporting teachers, leaders, and communities so more children can learn - not just attend. We call this
