Work Domain:
The Behera-based Sabiqun Society targets local communities and marginalized regions in Behera governorate. As a beginning, Sabiqun offers services to Dest Alashraf local community with a future plan to expand its domain to include the seven adjacent villages. Through support from local donors, members' donations, and partners' network the non-profit Sabiqun society offers academic, social and scientific support in terms of foreign language teaching, leadership training, public service and volunteerism awareness, women empowerment and talent sponsorship. To promote innovation, Sabiqun incubates any ideas or initiatives to develop our local communities and make them a better place to live in. Located on the Nile River, the Sabiqun premises has a spacious building with comfortable classrooms, laboratories , auditoriums, and activity rooms. Regionally, the society aims at expanding its services to the neighboring urban communities as it has a public library and research center intended to offer for-free services in terms of academic support and advising. The library has a number of 3000 books and resources with an annual plan to reach 10,000 by mid-June, 2013. Within 5 years, we aim at a total of 50,000 books and sources in all branches of knowledge with an independent Public Library & Research Center premises. Nationally, we aim at fathoming new horizons of cooperation and participation in all national initiatives and projects toward a common good for all citizens around the country. Internationally, we look forward to partnerships and networks through which we can share ideas and exchange experiences to help develop a post-revolution Egypt and create new channels of communication on the official and non-official levels. 1- Shariah & Quranic studies center
The center sponsors students at Azhar institutes to help them improve their knowledge as prospective Imams and community leaders. The target is to guarantee them a better understanding of religious knowledge within the context of their local communities. In addition, the center offers Quran classes on a regular schedule for all ages and all categories. The study includes, but not limited to, Quran memorization, Recitation, Exegesis and Readings. Moreover, the center offers Hadith classes at the hands of reputable scholars from Azhar institution.
2- "Public Library"
The public library and research center is intended to offer for-free services in terms of academic support and advising. The library has a number of 3000 books and resources with an annual plan to reach 10,000 by mid-June, 2013. Within 5 years, we aim at a total of 100,000 books and sources in all branches of knowledge with an independent Public Library & Research Center premises.
3- "Women Club"
The women club is intended to promote woman's role and empower her as a major asset in her community. The target is to qualify women to involve actively in public life and take part in politics. It's time to speak out and express themselves as we inaugurate a new era of dialogue on the way of democratization. Women are politically and socially empowered through public lectures, trainings and workshops prepared primarily for them. We encourage women participation and promote their mental abilities and leadership skills.
4- "Language Laboratory"
There is a wide gap between education and labor market. In a business-driven world, students and graduates are in a dire need for basic skills of computer and foreign languages. At Sabiqun society, we offer students and graduates the opportunity to improve their English as a required language in today's businesses. Classrooms and laboratories are professionally prepared and equipped with the necessary tools for a comfortable academic environment. Courses are designed to help students improve their skills in terms of reading, listening, speaking, and writing. Extra specialized programs are available like English for Business, Conversational English, and TOEFL preparation. Students have the chance to expose themselves to native speakers and aspects of an English environment. Our future plan is to instruct more than one foreign language as our ambition drives us toward professionalism.
5- "Center for Talented Youth"
The center sponsors talented youth in all fields offering them the opportunity to improve their talents and receive advanced orientations and workshops. Through our networks, those people have opportunities to travel and study abroad at notable institutions. In addition, top students at high school are offered a number of scholarships at remarkable Egyptian universities every year. We count on those people to improve our local communities after receiving the necessary education and training.
6- "Leadership Center"
The center offers trainings, workshops and programs that improve participants' leadership skills as prospective leaders in their local communities. The programs are basically offered for university students and fresh graduates to qualify them to lead small groups and be trained in teamwork activities and team spirit. Participants are expected to work in groups on graduation projects that offer solutions for suspended problems.
7- Entertainment Activities Center
This center is founded to offer entertainment activities to Sabiqun members. These entertainments include, but not limited to, picnics, trips, local tourism, movies, theater, field trips ...etc it's all about encouraging local cultures, habits and customs and creating an atmosphere of communication and cultural awareness.
8- "Sabiqun Scouting Groups"
Sabiqun also sponsors scouting activities for males and females at all grades. Great values like altruism, self-neglect and public service are introduced to the participants through workshops, lectures and field trips.
9-"Center for arts and Arabic Calligraphy"
The center is opened for public and not confined to members. Any talented person in the field of Arts can find a place to share his/her talent and work on it. For example, people talented in poetry, prose, innovative writing, novels, drawing, playing music, grafting, painting, singing and symposium are welcomed to join our workshops and trainings as we qualify them to express their talents to the community. In addition, the center offers courses in Arabic handwriting and calligraphy regularly. Classrooms are well-prepared and fully furnished and equipped with the necessary tools stationary stuff.
10- Sabiqun for Dialogue (renewal of religious discourse)
A unique initiative aims at deepening the values of dialogue and open-mindedness through updating the religious discourse and opening more channels for an inter-faith dialogue. This helps us refute many stereotypes and rebut misconceptions in an attempt to create a case of societal dialogue regardless of religious affiliation or ethnic biases.
