🦷 Three Days of Learning & Practice
Throughout the visit, our veterinary team received both theoretical and hands-on training covering:
🩻 Dental X-ray techniques and interpretation
💉 Local dental nerve blocks and regional anaesthesia
🦷 Dental examination and systematic diagnosis
🔍 Assessment of different dental conditions
🧠 Clinical reasoning and step-by-step decision-making
📋 Treatment planning, postoperative care and follow-up
🦷 Different treatment approaches for a variety of dental problems
🩻 Systematic interpretation of dental radiographs
💬 Case-based presentations and discussion of different clinical scenarios
But the visit went far beyond the dental training sessions.
Dr. Karin worked side by side with our veterinary team, joined our daily therapy rounds, participated in the assessment and management of hospitalized patients, and took part in the daily consultations and examination of new cases arriving at the hospital.
One of the most valuable parts of the training was learning not only what to do, but also how to think through a case:
Examine → Diagnose → Interpret → Plan → Treat → Follow up.
📋 Improving the Way We Work
Professional development is not only about improving medical skills — it is also about improving how a hospital works as a team.
During the visit, our team also held several organizational meetings with Corinne Frana, Program Management CH and International at SUST, focusing on ways to further improve the efficiency and organization of our daily workflow.
The discussions covered several important aspects of hospital operations, including:
• Improving case registration and patient records
• Strengthening the quality and consistency of medical documentation and written records
• Improving the flow of information throughout a patient’s journey in the hospital
• Strengthening coordination between different parts of the team
• Identifying ways to make everyday processes clearer, more organized and more efficient
• Discussing further improvements in different organizational and operational aspects of the hospital
These meetings gave us the opportunity to look at our daily work from another perspective — not only asking:
“How can we treat it better?”
but also:
“How can we work better?”
Because better organization, clearer documentation and stronger teamwork ultimately mean better and more consistent care for every animal that comes through our doors.
❤️ 𝘼 𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙠 𝙔𝙤𝙪 ❤️
We are deeply grateful to Dr. Karin Bachmann for sharing her knowledge, time and experience with our veterinary team, and for the dedication and enthusiasm she brought to every training session, discussion and patient.
A very special thank you as well to Corinne Frana for working closely with our team and helping us evaluate and develop the organizational side of our daily work.
And above all, our sincere thanks to Susy Utzinger Stiftung für Tierschutz - SUST for its continuous support.
SUST’s support goes far beyond providing medications, equipment and resources.
It means investing in people, knowledge and sustainable development.
By bringing experience and expertise directly to our hospital, supporting the continuous education of our veterinary team and helping us improve the way we work, SUST enables us to continuously raise the standard of care we can provide.
Every new skill learned, every case discussed, every process improved and every lesson shared can benefit many more animals in the future. 🐶🐱❤️
Three days of training.
Countless lessons.
Better skills. Better systems. Better care.
