is alarmed by surging violence in Abiemnom, Ruweng Administrative Area 🇸🇸. In response to the deteriorating security situation, peacekeepers are temporarily sheltering over 1,000 civilians within the Mission’s base in the area and providing emergency medical care to the injured. “Such violence places civilians at grave risk and must stop immediately,” said Anita Kiki Gbeho, Officer in Charge of UNMISS.

The Embassies of Canada, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States condemn a reported order issued by SPLM/A-IO Major General John Luk Bayak in northern Jonglei State for humanitarian organizations to surrender their vehicles. This order is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian principles and places assistance workers in harm’s way. We call for an immediate reversal of this order and the return of any assets seized. No party or individual in South Sudan has the right to confiscate assets provided by our government to assistance implementing partners in support of our effort to provide life-saving assistance to South Sudanese in need.

تعرب شباب النيل للسلام والتنمية (NYPD) عن دعمها الكامل لما ورد في البيان الصادر اليوم عن منظمة هيومن رايتس ووتش (HRW)، والذي نقلته صحيفة الموقف الناطقة بالعربية في جنوب السودان، بشأن الانتهاكات الجسيمة لحقوق الإنسان التي ارتُكبت في العاصمة جوبا منذ أواخر يونيو 2025 بذريعة “مكافحة العصابات”.
إن ما وثّقته هيومن رايتس ووتش من اعتقالات تعسفية، وتعذيب، وعنف جنسي، واختفاءات قسرية، وابتزاز، وتجـنيد قسري، بما في ذلك تجنيد الأطفال، يثير قلقًا بالغًا ويشكل انتهاكًا صارخًا للقانون الدولي لحقوق الإنسان والقانون الدولي الإنساني، وللالتزامات القانونية الواقعة على عاتق حكومة جمهورية جنوب السودان.
تؤكد NYPD أن حماية الأمن العام لا يمكن أن تتحقق عبر العقاب الجماعي أو استهداف الشباب والفئات الهشة، ولا عبر تقويض سيادة القانون. فمثل هذه الممارسات لا تؤدي إلى الاستقرار، بل تعمّق التهميش وتغذي دوائر العنف، وتنسف أسس السلام المستدام.
وتدين المنظمة بشكل خاص أي ممارسات تتعلق بالتجنيد القسري أو إشراك الأطفال في النزاعات المسلحة، باعتبارها جرائم جسيمة محظورة حظرًا مطلقًا بموجب القانون الدولي، ولا يجوز تبريرها تحت أي ذريعة أمنية أو سياسية.
وتدعو شباب النيل للسلام والتنمية سلطات جنوب السودان إلى الوقف الفوري لهذه الانتهاكات، وضمان التحقيق المستقل والشفاف في جميع الادعاءات، ومحاسبة المسؤولين، والكشف عن مصير المفقودين، وضمان حماية المدنيين، ولا سيما الأطفال والشباب.
كما تدعو المنظمة الشركاء الإقليميين والدوليين إلى الاضطلاع بدور فاعل في حماية حقوق الإنسان، وربط أي دعم أمني باحترام سيادة القانون ومنع تجنيد الأطفال.

🚨 Urgent Statement – Condemnation and Call for Investigation 🚨

Nile Youth for Peace and Development strongly condemns the serious allegations circulating on social media regarding the abduction of the refugee
Mawien Deng Koul, based on information published on his personal page.

According to the public post, Mawien Deng Koul reported that he was abducted, unlawfully detained, and subjected to a ransom demand of USD 2,000, after being approached in Downtown Cairo, in the direction of Sayeda Zeinab, near the main road under the bridge leading toward Zamalek. He further stated that he was taken to an unknown location and that his phone was confiscated.

While the organization has not independently verified these details at this stage, the seriousness of the allegations raises grave concerns and warrants urgent attention and investigation by the competent authorities.

Closely follow this case until his safety is confirmed and his release is secured

We call for:

An urgent and transparent investigation into the reported abduction

Immediate verification of the victim’s safety and whereabouts

Stronger protection measures for refugees against abduction and extortion
