International Burn Program at Cairo Burn Hospital – September 2026
As part of its commitment to providing comprehensive, patient-centered medical care, Operation Smile Egypt successfully conducted a short-term international Burn Program at Cairo Burn Hospital during September 2026.
The program launched with a comprehensive screening day on Friday, September 4th.
To effectively manage the high turnout, two screening stations were established:
* The first focused on non-surgical assessments—identifying patients requiring compression garments, Physiotherapy, and\or Silicone Sheets and Silicone Cream under the supervision of two plastic surgeons and Cindy Jackson, and the Instructor of Burn Care International (BCI).
* The second station handled standard Screened.
Throughout the day, the multidisciplinary medical team successfully screened *150 Burn Patients* and scheduled for Surgical Procedures 107 of them.
This marks a milestone for Operation Smile Egypt’s Burn Programs in Cairo and reflects the success of the ongoing collaboration with the host hospital.
Based on these precise assessments, surgeries were scheduled for 56 patients to treat complex burn-related conditions, while 51 patients underwent Fractional CO2 laser therapy sessions, utilizing four operating tables over the course of five surgical days.
To support long-term rehabilitation and optimal scar management, 32 patients were scheduled to receive custom-made pressure garments, while 24 patients underwent silicone therapy and physical therapy.
Due to limited surgical capacity and time constraints, priority was given to patients requiring surgery who arrived too late for the current round; they were instead scheduled for the upcoming local program in December.
Alongside clinical care, the program focused on capacity building and specialized training.
From September 5 to 7, Cindy Jackson led an intensive workshop on pressure garments.
Building on previous training initiatives, the workshop continued to assess and refine the skills of hospital seamstresses trained last year, while also training new seamstresses from Cairo Burn Hospital and Assiut University Hospital.
This initiative underscores the vital importance of an integrated, multidisciplinary approach that combines advanced surgical care, laser treatments, specialized rehabilitation, and local capacity building.
Operation Smile Egypt remains committed to providing comprehensive care that supports burn survivors throughout their recovery journey, working to restore hope, vital functions, and quality of life.
