🕯️ Remembering Nobel Laureate & TWAS Fellow, Prof. Ahmed Zewail 🧪✨

TWAS Arab Regional Partner (TWAS-AREP) at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina honors the memory and enduring legacy of Prof. Ahmed Zewail (1946–2016)—the legendary Egyptian chemist, Nobel Laureate, and distinguished TWAS Fellow.

Widely celebrated as the "Father of Femtochemistry," Zewail revolutionized our understanding of the atomic world. In the late 1980s, he developed pioneering techniques using ultra-short laser flashes to observe chemical reactions in real time—on a scale of femtoseconds (one quadrillionth of a second!).

🔬 Did you know? One femtosecond is to a second as a single second is to 32 million years!

Zewail’s groundbreaking work gave birth to the field of femtochemistry, allowing scientists to witness chemical bonds breaking and forming in slow motion, fundamentally transforming chemistry, physics, and biology.

May his memory and extraordinary journey continue to motivate and inspire generations of Arab scientists to pursue excellence, push scientific boundaries, and make lasting contributions to the global research community. 🌍💙
