SCLERAL BUCKLE COURSE | AVRS ANNUAL MEETING

Rediscover the precision, versatility and value of scleral buckling.

This focused course is designed for surgeons beginning their journey in posterior segment surgery, vitreoretinal surgeons who do not routinely perform scleral buckling, and experienced buckle surgeons seeking to refine and master their technique.

Through a systematic and reproducible approach, the course will cover:

• Patient selection for scleral buckle surgery
• Binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy
• Retinal break identification—preoperatively and intraoperatively
• Conjunctival peritomy and surgical exposure
• Different buckle types and their indications
• Accurate buckle placement and suturing
• Prevention of intraoperative complications
• Postoperative assessment and follow-up
• Suprachoroidal buckling
• Macular buckling for myopic macular hole retinal detachment

By the end of the course, attendees should have a clearer framework for selecting appropriate cases, planning surgery, executing its essential steps safely and managing postoperative follow-up.
