Hope of Bastion School is a non-profit Christian school for the community, locally run and supported by donors from the US & Canada.

Canadian missionaries Tim and Lil Horne, and a handful of Ecuadorian friends founded Hope of Bastion School in 1997. Located on the edge of the large port city of Guayaquil, with a population of more than 250,000, Bastion is one of the largest and most dangerous urbanized
communities in all of Ecuador. Many of the students come from homes that struggle with abuse, violence, drugs and gangs, and the unpredictability and hopelessness of their living conditions...but in the midst of all this stands the Hope of Bastion School. Within its walls, the children feel safe, the staff is kind, and all of the students are encouraged to rise above their circumstance. The school was named “Hope of Bastion” not because of the hope it gives itself, but because it is an extension of God’s love for the community and proof that He cares. Jesus is the great giver of hope. A little over a decade since the school first opened its doors, we have a fully functioning elementary school (k-9) that sees 200 kids pass through those doors every academic year.

We are so excited to see our new playground in its final stages of being built! This special gift was made possible by the VBS kids at Woodside Bible Fellowship. 🇨🇦

Through their generosity, children here in Bastión now have a fun new place to play, laugh, and enjoy time together at school. What a beautiful reminder that even young hearts can make a big difference!

We are so thankful to the kids, leaders, and families at Woodside who gave so generously to make this playground possible. Your gift is bringing joy to our students and blessing our school community in a very tangible way.

Thank you, Woodside VBS! We are grateful to be partnering together in what God is doing at Hope of Bastion. 💛

Today we celebrate the last day of school at Hope of Bastión School 🎉

What a year it has been! We are so grateful for our amazing students, dedicated staff and faithful donors who make this community feel like home.

As we step into the “summer” break, we invite you to pray with us:
*For safe and refreshing holidays for all of our students and families
*For a fruitful camp season at Faro de Esperanza Camp, that many hearts would be encouraged and drawn closer to Jesus
*And for a restful, renewing break for our staff, who have poured so much into our students all year long

Thank you for being part of the Hope of Bastión family. We’re excited for what God has ahead ❤️🙌🏻

A special day with our Grade 9 students at the Bible museum 📖
We loved getting out of the classroom and learning in a new environment, asking questions, and discovering more about God’s Word. Days like these remind us how meaningful it is to grow and learn together.
So grateful for the memories we’re making before they graduate in February and head off to continue their studies in different schools 💛
